Posted July 9, 200916 yr okay....I did it today...... My first go at cabinet breeding.... I selected Cindy and Boo, going okay only been in the breeding cage for a few hours, but eating and drinking...Cindy has been in the box and sussed it out..... I am concerned though with Boo....what are those pin feathers around his head?? Is he moulting?? should I put them back in the avairy??
July 9, 200916 yr he is moulting... when a budgie moults alot of energy is drained from then so most people dont reccomend breeding moulting birds as it will over-tax them.. he should be ready form breeding in a month or two... also if other birds are moulting give them extra veggies, fruits and other stuff so that they get the nutrients
July 9, 200916 yr Author okay...thought that might be the case..... I will put Boo back in the avairy till September and try instead.. So do you suggest with Cindy - Billy (green opaline) ....or Austin (dec)????
July 9, 200916 yr i think austin is a good pair... do you know what austin and cindy are split for because i am practising using the genetic calculator and it is very confusing lol
July 9, 200916 yr Is the brown on Cindy's cere flaking off? She looks a little past breeding condition???

July 9, 200916 yr Is the brown on Cindy's cere flaking off? She looks a little past breeding condition??? ive heard somewhere that during breeding a hens cere can get rusty They are meant to be brown, but when they crust up and flake off I 'THINK' they are no longer in the best condition. Don't quote me on it... not 100% sure and am definately no expert!
July 9, 200916 yr um just keep them bonded with out the box unless you want to do another pair they will get more benifit from extra atention and you will know when they ready to go as they will both look best they ever did exept for the last time when they looked best they ever did
July 9, 200916 yr Is the brown on Cindy's cere flaking off? She looks a little past breeding condition??? ive heard somewhere that during breeding a hens cere can get rusty Rusty.....NO. Crusty.YES. BUT as Maesie says there is a point where they are past breeding condition at the stage where the crusty area is about to peel off.
July 9, 200916 yr Author Hi Guys, No doesn't seem to be "flaking off", it's just crusty?? I will try and take a close up tonight and post. So if this is the case are you guys meaning "past breeding condition" this year or always? Thanks
