Hi, I was wondering what my budgies' mutations are? I hope the pictures are okay.

The green ones are brother and sister I'm pretty sure that she is opaline, but I don't know if he is because he looks kind of inbetween opaline and normal to me.

 

These 2 blue ones are brothers, I think a recessive pied and a normal, the normal one has a little white spot on the back of his head does that mean he is split for recessive?

 

This is a picture of their backs when they were younger.

 

And these are my youngest 2 who are out of quarantine now and having their first moults, if you need better photos of them I can get some in the next day or two. I find them most confusing, one I think might be yellowface2 opaline greywing? The other I thought was dominant pied but the beak is orange so does that mean recessive? Also I'm not sure if she is greywing as well, she has a lot of wing markings which are darker than the one I think is greywing but lighter than the other budgies. I hope that makes sense. I don't know if these two are related.

They both look like females to me and they are both Light Green Opalines

Yes you are correct on the mutations and that he is split for recessive pied.

Sounds like you are on the right thinking but pics of the full front and back would be wonderful.

Last two look like a yellow face opaline greywing sky blue and a recessive pied sky blue.

The 2 greens are both opaline

 

The next 2 are a sky blue recessive pied and a normal sky blue (the spot indicates that he is split for recessive pied)

 

The last picture T2 yellow face opaline greywing sky blue (but need a better picture to be sure about the greywing part). And a sky blue recessive pied

Wow, thanks for all your replies. I've finally managed to get some more photos for you. I haven't got very good pictures of their backs though. Has anyone else noticed that when you want a picture of their face they'll only show you their back and the other way round.

 

Here are a couple of Cloud the recessive pied.

 

 

And Summer the possible greywing, you can't really see her tail feathers but they're the same yellowy, bluey grey colours as her wings.

If you got them at the same time they are most likely sisters.

When breeding for a specific trait, you need to know that there are 4 factors that could reside that the same place on the chromosome that are responsible for these mutations. Greywing, Clearwing and Dilute factors are all recessive to the normal gene. Meaning if mated with a normal, the resulting babies will be split. The Greywing factor is semi-dominant over the Clearwing factor and is dominant over the Dilute factor. The Clearwing factor is dominant over the Dilute factor. Dilutes cannot be split for Clearwing or Greywing.
