Posted July 5, 200915 yr After waiting for almost five years, l'm finally getting a Cockatiel!!! Some of you may remember, wayyyy back in 2006 that l mentioned about wanting a cockatiel. The breeder told me that her cockatiels where sitting on eggs. l would try to contact her to ask about the cockatiels but she would not respond back to me. Then l had another breeder who said she would put me on her waiting list but she has not contact me for three years now. It seemed like no matter who l would contact about their tiels something would happen. l was at a point that l started to give up on ever getting a cockatiel and thought that l would never find my cockatiel who was mean't for me. Well, that all changed just yesterday. l was searching through kijji, when l spotted an ad. All it said was babies. l did not even know if it was about cockatiels but it was. The only problem was there was only one left. l thought that it was probably was sold with my luck with cockatiels. l wrote an email asking about the ad and that l was interested in the baby, lo and behold l got a reply. She told me that she has not sold her last baby. So l replied back saying l would love to have her/him. I also asked how old was the tiel and if it is handtamed. l got a reply today. She told me the baby is 4 months old and the tiel was hand trained but has not been handle lately but the tiel is very friendly and they also let there tiels fly out of there cage daily Here are some picture's of the tiels, l'm not sure which one it is but it is one of them, l will find out more when l phone her tomorrow. When l do get the tiel home l will be quarantining the tiel for a month before I introduce him/her to my budgie Tequila
July 5, 200915 yr Congrats. I had no idea they were that hard to find, theres oodells of them down here, just no decent budgies. Ahhh just saw you live in Canada Edited July 5, 200915 yr by Linda_S

July 5, 200915 yr That is so exciting!! I remember you posting on totally tiels about a year ago how you had plans to get a tiel... You have been so patient and i really hope this one is everything you have always wanted!!! YAY
July 5, 200915 yr well, they look like cuties so I'm sure you're itchin to go collect your new baby. it is surprising that it is hard to get hold of one as they are all over oz...but then again, Canada is a different kettle of fish.
July 5, 200915 yr They are adorable, is she going to DNA sex them for you so you? Are you looking for a male or a female? I love the pieds, congrats.
July 5, 200915 yr Author Thanks guys but l have awful news The lady just emailed me saying that someone else is intrested in the teil, was going to see it at noon today. She told me that first comes first :evil and that l could come earlier but l was at church. l'm so mad and sad, l phoned her and left a message and also left and email telling her how heartbroken l am right now. l guess it was not meant to be ~Edit~ l have now emailed another breeder. l'm waitng to hear from them now. Hopefully l will still get a handtamed tiel. Edited July 5, 200915 yr by birdluv added info
July 6, 200915 yr Personally Cathy, that is horrible and I am sure that someone will tell me that is business but with me business also comes the BEST home not just ANY home, I personally think it is reflection on her and if I was in your position I would opt out of purchasing a tiel from her now. Don't be sad things are meant to happen for a reason though I can completely understand you being upset and ticked.
July 6, 200915 yr Thats really disappointing form on the breeders behalf I'm sorry you missed out on this one, but hopefully you will get another soon.
July 6, 200915 yr Author l have some good news to tell you all At 6pm today l got a phone call from the lady, she explain to me that the guy who was coming at noon never showed up and he phoned her to tell her that he would come on monday instead. But she told me if l would like the tiel to come today. So l went immediately to her place and l got my Tiel!! She told me that she believes the cockatiel is a female, At the moment she is nameless but l think l might call her Tootsie or Tutti fruity Here she is. sorry for the bars being in the way but she was in a traveling cage before l put her in her cage l snaped a few.
July 6, 200915 yr Awww, yah!!! I was all ready to say 'sorry for not getting it'... but now I can congrats!
July 6, 200915 yr Congratulations! She's a little ripper. I love either of the names you are thinking about. I love their little rosy cheeks
July 6, 200915 yr On a pied you won't be able to tell only if you DNA sex them yourself or go by the behavior or if she lays an egg. Look forward to more pics she/he is beautiful.
July 6, 200915 yr By four months old s/he will be vocalizing environmental noises if he is male. Save your money and wait.
July 6, 200915 yr Author Thanks everyone. My sister and her 5 year old daughter has named my tiel Jubejube She is very cute Is she easy to handle ? l'm not sure right now, since she is new l'm letting her first settle in her cage. So far she is not that skittish of my hand when l change her food and water dishes. She has only hissed at me once so far. So l will see in a few days to see how she reacts to my hand near her and if l can handle her. By four months old s/he will be vocalizing environmental noises if he is male. Save your money and wait. yes that is what my breeder told me, so far Jubejube is not very vocal but that could be caused by being in a new environment.
July 8, 200915 yr Author Thanks Today while l was putting my hand in the cage to start a lttle bit of a taming session. l planned on putting my hand in the cage for less then 2 minutes but instead she escaped out of her cage. At first l thought, oh great because she flew to the ceiling even though her wings are trimmed( but l noticed she is getting new feathers on her wings) she is a very strong flyer. l did not chase her around the room, l decided to leave her and l figured she would eventually go back on her own. Well about an hour after, she flew very close to me and landed near me, l was shocked to see her come so close to me so soon. Since l have had her just for 2 days. Right now she is sitting close to me and watching me, while sitting on the windowsill. She really is friendly and outgoing even though she still will not let me get too close but l only have had her for a very short time. So that is to be expected. Tomorrow l'm planning on phoning my avian vet to book an appointment for Jubejube, for a check up and ask about wing clipping her.
July 11, 200915 yr Author Keep your camera close by babe you know what we are like on BBC for photos Next time l will have my camera ready l took her to see the vet today and she got a clean bill of health. She got her nails trimmed and her wings trimmed. Edited July 11, 200915 yr by birdluv
