Posted July 2, 200915 yr Hi everyone, I am getting prepared to start my breeding of pet types - late August / early September.. I would love some help with pairing, and suggestions of any colours/mutations I would need to add to my flock if necessary.... These are my boys that are over 12 months.. Boo - Opaline Cobolt Billy - Yellow face Green Opanline J.T - Normal Green Austin - Yellow DEC Girls.... Cindy - YF Cinnamon Opaline Dom pied Grey Skipper - Cobolt spangle Lacey - Green Dilute Grace - Normal Gray Alice - Normal sky blue - split recessive. Thoughts please...??
July 3, 200915 yr It really depends on what you what for mutations or if you are looking to show your birds at all? What colors do you like? What mutations of this color do you want? Do you want grey greens or do you want more greys? Do you want Green Spangles or Blue Spangles with the birds you have listed you have different options it is more what you are looking for and then we can help you decide better.
July 3, 200915 yr Author Hi Elly and thank you.... I love the DEC's......I would love more of them, I love the pretty pieds and spangles....I love all of them!! LOL.... Seriously though.....I would like more DEC's and Pied's....and try for a Violet??
July 3, 200915 yr This is how I'd probably pair them. You could get Spangles & normals/opalines, blue & grey. All hens would be opaline and all cocks would be split for opaline. If the green is split for blue (which is pretty common) you could get green and blue spangles & normals/opalines. As with the above combo all hens would be opaline and all cocks would be split for opaline. All green birds unless both are split for blue if so you could get blues too. Some dominant pieds some normals. Hens would be normal and cocks would be split cinnamon. with or Someone else will have to do the maths on these guys  Are you sure billy is a boy, he looks like a hen in the above picture. Probably just the angle. Edited July 3, 200915 yr by Linda_S
July 3, 200915 yr Author Thanks Linda_S...... Sorry Linda_S....read your comment after I'd re posted.......yes Billy is a boy - I'ts just that picture....
July 3, 200915 yr Glad to help. Definately a boy, just looked a little brown in the picture. Good luck with your pairings. Out of interest, have any of the birds formed pairs of their own?
July 3, 200915 yr Billy and Grace = Grey Green opaline hens and grey green split opaline cocks. Also a chance of Blues/greys if Billy is split Blue.
July 3, 200915 yr Billy - Yellow face Green Opanline are you sure Billy is yellowface and not just a green opaline ? Cindy - YF Cinnamon Opaline Dom pied Grey Cindy looks to be grey green ?
July 3, 200915 yr Author Hi Kaz....no I'm not sure....someone on here said Yellowface opaline, I'm just going by that.....same with Cindy......
July 3, 200915 yr I agree with Kaz about Billy and Cindy, didn't notice that Cindy was listed as grey though I guess my mind just added the green on the end.
July 3, 200915 yr Author okay cool, thank you both, so Cindy is Grey green and Billy is Green opaline..... Sorry the other post about Billy- they did say "possible" yellow face, so my error...sorry It's a bit confusing for us newbies.....
July 3, 200915 yr i belive you should put cindy and boo together they the pairing id go with for the pied spangle out come you will get nice doms from this cocks being split cin and you will get yellow face , white faced and opaline spangles and norm opalines and dom opaline spangles yf dom opaline norm or spangle yf opalines their is more but best veriaty in my opinion dom yf opaline spangles cocks being split ... hens being norm wing colouring unless dad split cinn a bigger bonus or boo with the blue split pied as i would say he is split does he have just one fully white feather on his head at back ? if he is you will get a pied or two from that pairing
July 3, 200915 yr oh wow.... that YF Cinnamon Opaline Dom pied Grey-green is one of the most beautiful budgie's ive ever seen in the grey green gene.... that's the sort of bird i would pay TOP dollar for! good luck with the outcome from her. she's gonna give off a wonderful offspring. put cindy with billy..
July 3, 200915 yr Author Thank you GB.....So Boo with Alice?? The spot on the back of her head is about the size of the tip of my middle finger???? Thankyou Mattdog2...Yes I love Cindy too....so you think Cindy with the Green opaline cock?? Sick as..(my son's talk !!!!)...can't wait to see what happens.....
July 3, 200915 yr yes if they were mine i would put cindy and billy together, but that's my opinion...
July 3, 200915 yr Thank you GB.....So Boo with Alice?? The spot on the back of her head is about the size of the tip of my middle finger???? Thankyou Mattdog2...Yes I love Cindy too....so you think Cindy with the Green opaline cock?? Sick as..(my son's talk !!!!)...can't wait to see what happens..... no i think boo with cindy i believe this best pairing if they were my birds you would have more options to breed in future and mabe you will get a blue chick if not any chick you do get will have blue chicks as well as green when you put it with another blue or white bird think about future pairing of all pairs out comes it will help you decide what you think is best out come look beyond what you have to what you can achieve from these pairs as to what chicks of theirs you could pair and what they will give you but mostly just have fun with it any birds will be pretty but if boo has a single white feather on his head then place him with alise the one with the patch on her head if he does it will be hard to see but you will see it it will just be one white feather not a patch like alices
July 4, 200915 yr Author HI GB, and thanks for your help.... Boo's patch on his head is about as big as Alice's....
July 4, 200915 yr Generic is right also, it all depends on what the breeder wants from the offspring, to my liking, i like what cindy and billy would give as offspring mutations, but other's will like what other's can give through the offspring with cindy.... everyone has a different liking to each color/mutation
July 4, 200915 yr Author Yep MD2 your right..... If I am understanding all this right, I am thinking... as this is my first time to cabinet breed, and I don't know the parents of my birds, that I will learn more about my birds from this season - regardless of the colour outcome...I mean... that if I do pair up certain pairs I will know that the greens are split for blue ect...? EG: if I were to pair J.T - Normal Green and Grace - Normal Gray - from thier offspring I will know if they are split for anything...? I hope this makes sense... Sorry guys but I am struggling with this mutation thing...........
July 4, 200915 yr I am still struggling myself, i knew squat about mutation's and such before coming here. now i understand it quiet clearly... if your grey-green and normal grey bred... (assuming their's no other mutations) then you will know that all the chicks are split for everything that the parents carry in their gene.... which means every single budgie in this world (unless bred yourself) is unknown to what gene it carry's until it actually has an offspring of chicks.... so really EVERY nest is a surprise in it's own ways. by seeing color's in their that you wouldnt have expected 1 bit
July 5, 200915 yr Author I think I will go... Cindy and Boo Austin and Grace Billy and Alice J.T and Lacey
July 5, 200915 yr I think that they are excellent pairs... it would be interesting to see what they come up with
July 6, 200915 yr Boo looks special... to an untrained eye that is true... but can't wait for his offspring
