Posted July 1, 200915 yr Hi everyone, My Austin has been looking "weird" when eating seed for a while now..... This is really hard to explain, but he sort of rolls the seed in his mouth, and opens and closes his beak wide  not sure how else to explain it...... Maybe his beak needs trimming? none of my other birds do this.....or would it be a more serious underlying condition? He is healthy, his feathers are beautiful, he is very active - it's just the way he eats? Any thoughts from the guru's....??
July 2, 200915 yr His beak doesn't look like it needs to be trimmed. Pretty used to yawn a lot too and Merlin looks like he is rolling his seed too, normal behaviors.
July 2, 200915 yr I'd like to see another photo as well, possibly from more of an angle so we can see more from the side? It does look a bit long to me. It is not normal for a bird to require beak trimming. The most common reasons budgies get long beaks are scaley face (he looks clear to me) and liver disease, most commonly from a high fat diet. Do you feed fruit and veggies regularly alongside the seed?
July 2, 200915 yr Author Thank you Chrysocome, A few more pics...... I feed, fruit and veg - coreless apples, cucumber, silverbeet, corn cobs, mashed boiled egg (with shell), 3/4 times a week..... When I compare his beak to my other birds it doesn't seem any different......to me. Can I post a 15 second video taken on my camera to photobucket and supply the link....then you can see what he does???
July 2, 200915 yr Author I uploaded a 15 second video of Austin on photo bucket.......hope it works.... In this video he has seed in his beak.... http://s635.photobucket.com/albums/uu74/an...t=Austin009.flv Edited July 2, 200915 yr by anne101
