July 28, 200915 yr Author okay there has been a little dispturbance in the CheekyBlue avairys this month: First, Pepper's mate Kissy died, we have only latly got here a new mate: Salt so I thought that every thing was okay and that was that. Next I realised that when I was away in the Solomons, the rest of my family was going to QLD and I had nobody I could ask to give my birds the daily care that they needed, so I have had to descide to let them all out into the avairy so that they don't need quite so much maintnence. So that was descided. Last but not leaset, yesterday my brother went up tho the cages and found Lady in the corner of the cage, dead. when I went up and investigated I found an egg stuck to her rear end. I feel terrible. is that eggbound? so the end of the matter is that I need a new female bird. So thats what life is like in this part of the world.
August 25, 200915 yr Author okay and once again tradgity has struck. while I was away in the Solomons, the birds were let out in the avairy and when I returned... Sky was dead. as was my indoor pet Spice. I feel really bad and also angry at my brother for not taking care of them properly. So now I only have 6 birds: Salt & Cloud, Rascle and Pepper, adn Sunny and Butter. I am missing the rest badly. Only sunny and butter have a nest at the moment because Cloud is not in BC and Pepper and Rascle are father and daughter. So thats the story here. I don't quite know what to do at them moment. August 25, 200915 yr That's so sad M6B... ...It does sound as if Lady was egg bound.... Maybe next time you could get a pet sitter to come to your house? I know it would cost money - not sure how much - but at least they would be looked at and checked daily? If I was closer I would have come and checked them for you...
August 26, 200915 yr Author awww your so sweet. next time my friend will get them.... actualy we might be going traveling sooond so that meansshe'll get them anywayl.
August 27, 200915 yr I'm sorry about your babies, I was wondering why the sad face in your profile. I hope things turn out well for Sunny and Butter, that Butter is quite the handsome fella!
August 28, 200915 yr Author Thanks Kate, Sunny has been spending time in the nest. which reminds me, I have to go and put rolled oats in the nest for her...
August 28, 200915 yr You know this is why many budgie breeders have to think long and hard before planning their holidays ..... I'm sorry you lost some birds M6B, it's always gut wrenching to come home to losses. The last time I went on holidays 2 of my best birds died the day before I was due to return ....
August 28, 200915 yr Oh sorry M6B that's tough going! Does sound like an egg bound hen but sometimes even when you are around stuff happens when you breed budgies. Hopefully the rest of your breeding season goes smoothly. Edited August 28, 200915 yr by KAZ typos
