Posted June 29, 200915 yr Wow... i come back from my holiday and 6 pairs have eggs!!!! the first pair i want to show you guys is quite confusing ... But we'll give each pair a number Pair number one... okay here are the pictures of two very naughty hens, their new names are the rebels... A lutino and a grey cinnanom... and the cock.. i dont know what colour he is but he is an opaline and is split for lutino well any way, this cock has been mating with both the hens, and they are sharing the same nest. on day one i was here, there was one egg and the next day there was 3 eggs!! i mean, how many eggs can one budgie lay, so these sisters must be really good pals to work together and lay eggs together, however i am concerned what is going to happen when the chicks hatch..... well see what you guys have to say.... im going to buy some more nests soon anyway... and now... Pair 2 they already have 6 eggs... grey-green-yellow cinanom opaline hen split blue... and the cock is a laurel split lutino and blue and opaline if a bird can be split for opaline pair 3... they have 3 eggs a lutino hen(this picture is bad) and an aqua spangle cock(i dont know what this gu is split for, bought him) Pair 4 which have 4 eggs.. an albino hen and a skyblue opaline cock.....probably split lutino (whoops...accidently deleted his picture..he looks nice..anyway) And the next two pairs are in seperate cages.. Pair 5...have 5 eggs A grey-green spangle cock(split unknown) on the left and the hen, a skyblue dominant pied(SF) she was to fast to take a proper picture... and Pair 6 I dont have any pictures of these guys but maybe in the future the cock is a normal yellow face type two violet and the hen is a normal cobalt split recessive pied they have 4 eggs... theres this pair as well that was mating, the cock being a clearwing and the hen being a double factor spangle, but they dont have a nests...well give it a name if they lay eggs. any way, i am so excited!!! Anyone got any tips or tricks???
June 29, 200915 yr only find out who all the blood is from and closely monator thoughs birds as so they dont kill eachother as for the ones shareing dont desturb they will both feed chicks so will dad
June 29, 200915 yr Check the yellow hen closely...there has been fighting over this nestbox and she is bleeding.
June 29, 200915 yr Check the yellow hen closely...there has been fighting over this nestbox and she is bleeding. looks like she needs to be removed for some tlc if this is one with share box then i would remove hen from aviry let other hen take care of eggs and chicks if not remove her and just place eggs else where she needs to beable to rest and recoop
June 30, 200915 yr Author I was going to tell you about that blood there... its definetly the two girls fighting but if i was to put the Lutino somewhere else she might get egg-bound because the cock has mated with both of them. When you are talking aout renest and recoop, what do you mean? Anyway, once the rain stops i want to see if anyones laid anything..
June 30, 200915 yr She wont get eggbound. If you put her in a cage with a lamp for recuperation she may lay another egg off the perch but she will stop. Leaving her in there fighting for a nestbox is not a good idea. Iots stressful and she can get sick from stress over fighting for a place to lay an egg. Hens have killed each other over nestboxes.
June 30, 200915 yr Author Just checked the eggs. With pair one one of the eggs has either been stepped on or eaten but now there are two eggs. With pair two i think their limit is 6 eggs now because its been a few days since shes laid anything, same with pair 5.... Kaz, is it okay to put her in the garage with a torch? i dont have a lamp

June 30, 200915 yr Author Yes it is a dominant pied because half its wings are white, it has a stripe at the back of its head and a little patch at the lower tummy. i know that you need warmth not light but i could probably use a powerful torch because i am sure that will give some sort of warmth or else i will cant bring the bird into the garage.

A desk lamp, a lamp for the bedroom, or a car trouble lamp with a 25 to 40 watt glove will do ( not energy saver globes ) .....if not just bring the budgie inside for awhile in another cage.
June 30, 200915 yr Author ill do that then(put it inside the house). Since i live in Perth, can you reccomend and good budgie clubs i could join with rings etc..
June 30, 200915 yr ill do that then(put it inside the house). Since i live in Perth, can you reccomend and good budgie clubs i could join with rings etc.. There are three budgie clubs. Metropolitan budgie club that meets in bassendean. Rare budgie club that meets in girrawheen and southwest budgie club that meets in Mandurah. The rare budgie club has the interclub challenge ( all three clubs ) on this weekend Sunday 5th at Girrawheen.....if you want to go and have a look. I will be there. There will also be budgies for sale there too.
June 30, 200915 yr Author Pair 3 have laid another egg , i took the Lutino out from pair one and placed her in a new cage. Tommmorow i will take a few pictures of eggs aswell :thankyou: ...Unfortunately one of Pair 5 eggs had apuncture in it . Also their nest is really messy and full of poop and stuff. I dont know if that can spread diseases . Also on the floor there was a egg thrown out but i dont know who did because all the egg numbers are the same:huh:. Could someone please tell me how to check if an egg is fertile??? Apart from that, alls good
July 1, 200915 yr Author Pair 5 and Pair 4 have both laid another egg!!! its the first time the pied has laid over five eggs aswell... The grey hen in Pair one has thrown out the eggs so i have now put her in a different cage and the mating pair, the last photo has settled in one of the nests Very excited.... im expecting pair 2's eggs soon to hatch
July 1, 200915 yr The grey hen in Pair one has thrown out the eggs so i have now put her in a different cage Are you absolutely sure about this ? usually its another female in a colony aviary that throws out the eggs not the mother who laid them.
July 1, 200915 yr Author i am quite sure because there wasnt any blood, and there wasnt before that any hens trying to get a good look inside. Also the day before i took the Lutino away so she probably feels threatened being left by herself
July 2, 200915 yr Author Yay!!! Pair 2 has a little pink bub with its egg tooth still and a few seeds in its crop!! Pair three now have 5 eggs!!! and the Lutino from pair one has laid an egg off the perch and it diidnt have a scratch so i placed it in Pair threes nest in hope that it will hatch... very excited....
July 3, 200915 yr Author wow! today the cinnanomwing has hatched another egg!!! and pair 5 have seven eggs now!! I am very suprised
July 8, 200915 yr Author almost a week later and nothing much has happened ..but its still a long story ..the cinnanom girl has 3 bubs , the lutino has 7 eggs which should hatch soon... and another she has is a foster egg. the Albino eggs dont seem to want to hatch because the hen never lays on them . Dominant piedy has still 7 eggs and cobalt and yellowface are stuck on 5 eggs All is going good after these nests are finished i am going to take the nests out of the avairy...From then on i wont let the avary birds breed in their because they always fight and stuff. Also i almost forgot to add i have a new male chinese painted quail...he is so adorable and is very shy...when we put him in a bigger box he flew out stright like a helicopter!!!! i have seen pictures of quail babies...they are like the little yellow fake chicks you see around easter im on a roll!!!LOL very happy

I lived all over WA and perth (up, down, left, right, inland, coastal) for over a year and girrawheen was the only place i wouldnt go at night-time! Although i did hear that some richies were buying up all the cheap places bordering on the nice suburbs and extending the nice buildings until 'old girrawheen' got smaller and smaller? Although i did hear that some richies were buying up all the cheap places bordering on the nice suburbs and extending the nice buildings until 'old girrawheen' got smaller and smaller?Girrawheen is still as you remember it But this club may be moving to same premises as the metro budgie club soon....bayswater.the Albino eggs dont seem to want to hatch because the hen never lays on them .One of the hazards of colony breeding is, although a hen lays eggs in her nestbox, others in the aviary can stop her from returning to her nest and eggs. She can want to be a good mother, but other birds can prevent this Edited July 8, 200915 yr by KAZ
