Posted April 12, 200520 yr :glare: My Budgies had a clutch of 5 babies witch 2 of them came out with injuries, one of them had a brocken leg and another came out being blind in one eye I heard it was something called CROWDED NEST SYNDROME.Because the nest was alot smaller than most other nests. After seeing this i was going to take that breeding box out once the babies came out of the nest and didnt need to go back in.BUT just before i could do that the mother has already laid another clutch of 5 eggs in the small breeing box And if i dont get these eggs out and transfer them to a different box the same will happen to these babies.I have a bigger breeding box that is not in use so i was wondering how i could transfer the mother and the eggs to this box with out the mother abandoning the eggs. Thankyou
April 12, 200520 yr I'm not at all sure. I think it would be fine to move eggs since big breeders move eggs all over the play with fostering and what not. But it's really up to the mum if she would take a bother to the new nest or not. Is there no other sitting mum to be that you could put the eggs under? Even just some for them and let the mother in the small nest raise one or two. Edited April 13, 200520 yr by nerwen
April 12, 200520 yr I have found with my budgies that they seem to look for the postition of the hole of the nestbox. Ie. I can remove a nestbox to look inside it or clean it out and position another nestbox with the same eggs or chicks in the same place and the hen will accept the nestbox. I would only really recommend fostering if she abandons the eggs or is unable to look after the chicks herself. But that's just from personal experience with my own birds.... they are of course all individuals and you will have to find out what works best for you and your ones. Good luck!
April 12, 200520 yr is this in a flight or cage if it is a cage there should be no problem as for a flight you would have to get the nst box in pretty much the same spot, how big was the first nest box
