Some New Purchases

Featured Replies

Went to my local club's sale tonight and bought 6 more birds, 5 hens and 1 cock.

A dark green hen and cinnamon light green hen from Greg Gregoriou.

A dark green 08 cock and a grey green 09 hen from John Hewitt

A light green opaline late 08 hen and a late 08 grey green hen.

Pics will come tomorrow maybe, if I get time (yes even us school teachers often have to go in and do interviews for Yr 7 2010 on saturdays).

A good night, some nice birds, and everytime I had to compete in a coin toss, i won, so a lucky night as well.

Very good night Dave. I look forward to your pictures. Have you made plans for expanding your birdroom and aviary yet

Dave I like that you bought a lot of normals tonight, I was looking through your pairs thread and saw there was quiet a number of opaline birds so I think it was a great tactical and very wise move tonight to purchase some normals! They will help to get some good spangle markings back into the wings of those powerful opaline spangles you have. Good on ya, looking forward to seeing the photographs.

Indeed, i dont like to have too many of each gene. as you can see by my photobucket album, theirs not 1 bird thats the same in my aviary, except their 2 identical violet opalines, and 2 normal grey greens

look forward to seeing those picture's mate.

Buying birds ..... you may say that you're almost done - but that is until the NEXT time! :P

A friend of mine fairly new to budgies and she is breeding.....doesnt know a scrap about genetics yet.......she went out one day and brought home some new budgies. When I asked why she bought the ones she did when she had baby budgies in nests soon to come out she said..........I dont have those colours yet......

at this point I told her she did ....because the babies in one of her nests were feathering up to be exactly the colour and type of the ones she just bought. :P:)

All birds are young, with the bradford birds still having a fair bit of maturing to do.

 that dark green hen is fantastic!!! nice pick their mate! and the other's look great to especially the cinnamon wing

The dark green hen and the cinnamon winged light green hen each cost me $100. Myself and another guy wanted the dark green hen. We flipped a coin, I called heads, it was heads, so she was mine. The John Hewitt cock and the grey green hen I bought as a pair, they cost me $60 all up. Myseld and a lady both wanted this pair. We flipped a coin, I let her call, being a gentleman. She called heads. It was a tail, so they were mine. The two Bradford hens cost me $25 each. All up, 6 birds cost me $310.The dark green hen is amazing. You are right. She would go wonderfully well with the John Hewitt Cock I bought, or maybe the Henry George cocks, or even Bruticus, my grey Cec Gearing Cock who has excellent bloodlines.

You have developed a good eye for birds now Dave
I am getting much better. This was my first club sale, so now I am more experienced, I will head to other clubs when I want birds.

put her with bruticus, i have a good feeling about it

the dark green hen was worth the $100, no doubt about it.

the pics do no really do her justice either as she is in a big cage, and the photos are lookign down at her. it makes her appear shorter than she is.

I will try to remember your "feeling" when i plan my next breeding pairs

Matt, i am not sure you understand what opaline is.

Note the heavy barring on her head. She is not an opaline. If you are basing it on the fact that there is a bit of colour in her wings? This might be opalescence, but she is not an opaline. the Light green bradford hen is opaline. Note the absence of barring on her head.
