Posted June 18, 200915 yr These two chicks have turned up in one of my nests. The Grey Green ____________________________________________________________ The Grey ____________________________________________________________ This is one of the other chicks. A Darkeyed Clear. Hen is a Recessive Pied Grey Green Cock is a Darkeyed Clear that could be split Opaline. I believe that they are both Darkeyed Clears with a BIG fault. Body Suffusion that has made it way into the wing. ......Your thoughts?
June 18, 200915 yr Recessive pied spangle ? But a parent has to be spangle for that...can dark eyed clears hide things like spangle ? Looks recessive at very least. Edited June 18, 200915 yr by KAZ
June 18, 200915 yr i thought opaline rec pie spangle too second one looks defenently rec pie but not opaline but then the down is white so must be...? dark eye clear can mask Edited June 18, 200915 yr by GenericBlue
June 18, 200915 yr Author The Darkeye Clear came from a Darkeyed Clear white / opaline Cock to a Grey /recessive pied hen. As far as I know, no Spangle.???

Initially i thought Opaline Cinnamon Recessive Pied Spangle, until i seen the Parents. Im now not sure. Maybe just a poorly marked opaline Cinnamon Rec Pied - no Spangle
June 18, 200915 yr Author Interesting isn't it. I have emailed the photos to the breeder that got me into DECs to see what he thinks. The big question is.. can a DEC mask Spangle?
June 18, 200915 yr The expected result from mating a recessive pied to a dark eyed clear would be about 50% recessive pied and 50% dark eyed clear. The 2 chicks look recessive pied with another mutation like cinnamon or greywing lightening the markings Dark eyed clears can mask other mutations like spangle but neither of the 2 chicks look spangle to me.
June 18, 200915 yr Author Well the two breeders in the back ground have bred Greywings. One was the national winner in Melbourne. So It won't supprise me if there is some greywing in there. But it doesn't look like it in the grey green.
June 18, 200915 yr they mask just like df,ers if its grey wing back ground could explain the thickness of the wing markings nice thick the reason it may look spangle in pick could be as the rececive marks are denclly close and some over lapping

June 18, 200915 yr the grey-green i'm not sure could be a badly marked DEC's or just recessive pieds, which the grey one looks to me
June 18, 200915 yr Author Well I have some answers coming in... There is thought that they could be Spangle Recessive pieds. The DEC can mask spangle. The oterh thought is that they are known as Penguin Recessives. An old term for very badly marked DECs. I'll be speaking to a Cookie tomorrow regarding these birds. Daivd Cook has been breeding DECs for many years and these could be traced bak to his stock. I'll let you know the out come.
June 18, 200915 yr They don't look spangle. Looking at the coloured tail feathers no spangle marking is evident. They look like rec pieds with light markings - grey wing rec pieds look right to me but not knowing anything about the DEC's I'm interested to hear about the "Penguin Recessives".
June 18, 200915 yr Look like opaline recessives. Recessive has a great deal of variation in markings or lack theroef. Could be greywing or some such in there, but time will tell i guess.
June 19, 200915 yr I really dont see spangle either. they do look like greywing rec pieds but with no body colour dilution. Time will tell hey?
July 1, 200915 yr daz what was the out come of these two little ones were they spangled rec pie or dec ? pics would b nice if you have time
July 24, 200915 yr Author It turns out that they could be Recessive Pied Grey Wings. I'll try to get some up to date photos.
July 25, 200915 yr It turns out that they could be Recessive Pied Grey Wings. I'll try to get some up to date photos. that would be great daz cheers
July 25, 200915 yr this is my greywing opaline greywhite baby im not sure they look similar now ive found my photo though !!
July 25, 200915 yr I have a greywing grey opaline recessive that looks the same as that bird there ghazzigh, but I don't think it's the same as Daz's bird... the first chick almost looks like a greywing TCB pied? if they're possible LOL!
