New Budgie Owner

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, my name is Kellie and I have recently became a budgie owner. I've had Charlie who's about 14 weeks old for about 6 weeks and yesterday I got Bella who's about 8 weeks old. They are getting on like a house on fire which is so cute to watch. They give each other "kisses" and Charlie is forever trying to preen Bella. Last night, Charlie even put his foot on her back as if to say to her, "you're mine." They even "talk" to each other. As I said I am new to owning budgies, so any advice would be greatly appreciated. I look forward getting to know everyone and their flocks.

Hi Kellie and welcome,

I am only new to this site as well, there is heaps of information and the others guys have so much knowledge......

I do think that you should have quarantined Bella though, I learned that lesson the hard way and around 10 of my birds died, that would not have happened if I had quarantined properly...it was very sad...

Anyway, thats my thought, the guys on here have years and years of experience, I'm sure they will welcome you and advise if this is correct....

Hope to see some pics soon.

Bella was quarantined for a month or so by the lady I bought her off before I bought her home.

Hi, welcome

About quarantine, it really is very important to do. Regardless of where you got your new budgie from but since it is too late to do. Just keep an eye on your budgies for any signs of illness. If l where you l would take them to an avian vet for a check up.

Hi,

The foot on the back thing is him trying to mount her. Just make sure there are no breeding boxes or anything she can think is a breeding box so that you don't get unwanted babies.

Other then that some pictures would be nice and welcome to the forum

I did quarantine her. The lady I bought her off had her on her own for a month before I picked her up yesterday. I will get them to an avian vet asap. Thanks for the advice.

I thought that might be what he was trying to do, the dirty little bugger  There's defitinely no breeding box or anything that even remotely resembles a breeding box in the cage.

Just a note, you meant the lady quarantine her for you? If that is what you meant it doesn't work that way once a bird is moved it does become stressed and this is when illness can come out. I would keep an eye on them, in our FAQ sections we have a Health Sections that reviews signs of a sick and a healthy bird so you can know what to look for. :D.

Yeah, the lady I bought her off quarantined her. I'm keeping a close eye on both Charlie and Bella and so far she seems very healthy and happy. Eating fine, chattering away, no obvious signs of illness. Thankyou everyone for the advice.
