Posted June 15, 200916 yr Poor Dave got his foot stuck...really stuck...to the point of flapping around and screeching...underneath the plastic back of the toy. It screws to the outside. This toy Anyone else had this happen? I have a bunch of toys with the same type of mount system. I'm wondering if they are safe in general. Any thoughts? I hope he's okay. It was really sore when I got him free. But he did start putting weight on it again. Dave is the most fragile of my birds. I worry for my little guy. Toy mounts like these
June 15, 200916 yr Click on the words... they are linked to photos, although the first one doesn't come up for me. I have used them and never had a problem. Hope your guy is okay! Edited June 15, 200916 yr by maesie

However, the thickness of the cage bars would affect how closely the two parts screw together. I can see that a little toe could get caught between them. I hope he recovers quickly.
June 15, 200916 yr Author Picture will not load up Try this link It's the activitoys preening rope. Maybe the toy was a little crooked leaving a gap between the wire and the mount? I'm leaning toward freak accident. Dave is fine this morning. It's got me nervous though because we are going out of town in a couple weeks. We have a pet sitter coming once a day. But what if something happens while I'm gone? Summer
June 15, 200916 yr I cannot see the black plastic you speak of that he got stuck on but I would like to comment on the fringing on this toy. I have lost a couple of birds who hung themselves on fringing rope like this on other toys. Anything similar to this of the length of rope fringing like this they can hang themselves on. They have a tendency to put their head through and move and the threads tighten up around their neck. One bird I lost just caught her her wing on the threads and she wasnt seen caught up and she flapped andf flapped to free herself and died from the stress. I would not use a toy with rope threads anything longer than cut off to one inch length now.

Or what about a plain cloth ribbon? Do you think they could hang themselves on that? I have a couple of these and they love to climb on them. The ribbon is about an inch wide.
