I have had Tequila for almost a month and l noticed that even though l spend a ton of time with her, she still seems to be lonely. After having 2 budgies, it feels weird having only 1 budgie.

Now, when l was looking for a budgie before l had found Tequila. I placed an add in my local paper, looking for tamed budgies. No one replied so l got Tequila at a family run pet store. A week later l got a reply to my add from a local budgie breeder. She told me she has tame baby budgie's for sale and to get back to her if l would like to see some pictures and for more information. l wrote back to her saying that it is okay, l found a budgie but thanks for replying.

Well l thought that it was probably to late to get one of her tamed baby budgies but l thought that l would email her today and asked if she still has one. If not that would be fine because l'm still debating about the idea of getting another budgie.

She replied back to me, she told me that she still has one left. She told me she will hold on to the budgie until l decide if l would like it or not. So l replied back telling her that l'm interested but l will think about it but l would definitely write back to her either on Saturday or Sunday to tell her if l will take her tamed baby budgie. She replied back and said that is fine,

So l might be getting one more budgie

Lovely Do you think Tequila might get more tame if you get another one that is very tame already? Not sure how that works.

 

Do you know anything else about this budgie yet apart from it being tame?

 

If it was me I'd probably go for it, especially as it's from a breeder but obviously it has to be the right choice for you.

Sounds great! I always liked having them in pairs. I know it makes taming harder, but if you're willing to put in the effort and time (as I know you are) I'm sure all will go well. Good luck with your decision!

if anything, it should be easier to tame with both of them, as the non-tame one will see how much love and time you put into the other, and it will also help to put your hand in the cage for a while with the tame one on your finger, that way the non-tame one will be used to your hand, and will feel more confident with your hand if the other budgie is unharmed by it.

^ I think it can go either way. My guess is that the "tame" one will still require some taming. Most breeders who say they have tame budgies have got lots of babies that they handle regularly, and who appear very tame within the setting they're in with the breeder they're familiar with. Sometimes they stay just as tame, but other times they'll take a step or two backwards when you bring them to a new setting with new people and it's all unfamiliar. But even then I'm sure they won't take long at all to get tame as compared to a totally untame one.

 

So when you have your tame one in quarantine make sure you work on getting it as tame as you can, and then yes it may help with taming the other one, but also putting them together, depending on their personalities, there is a chance that if the other one is anxious the tame one might feed off that anxiety a bit too. But I'm sure if you just keep with it they can both be tame

Doesn't usually work like that Matt. Having them in pairs or more means they bond to each other more than you, making bonding and taming harder. You can have a tame budgie for years and then add another, and you often find that tame one will become less focussed on you in no time. That being said, as I said before, if you are willing to put in the time and effort, as Birdluv will, taming two can be done. Individual sessions usually work best, as Birdluv also knows

well, it looks like l'm not getting one at the moment. I just found out that the breeder is actually in California and not in Manitoba. I wish l found out sooner then now. Oh well, l guess it was not mean't to be. l'm not upset, l will just spend more time with Tequila
