When i got this budgie the keeper said it was male. The cere was blue, then started turning white with only a small amount of blue. Over the past few days it has turned brown just in the middle of the cere and this morning the whole cere is brown. I guess the keeper was wrong...? Is she in breeding condition?

Hi Kirra,

I'm only really new at this too... but she looks like a hen to me...

The keeper was VERY wrong. Definately female. How old is she?

Any white on a budgies cere including if its with blue, means female. A lot of "breeders" still havent worked that out. A great many people think any blue on a cere means boy.

But anyway, you have the prettiest FEMALE budgie :offtopic:

Breeding condition YES....breeding age NO.

the keeper didnt know exactly how old she was but when i got her i assumed she was still fairly young because she still had all the lines on her head nearly down to the cere, but im not very experianced so i dont know for sure. ive had her for about 7 1/2 months.

Well when i thought she was a male i named her Louie and i don't really want to change it now haha so Louie it is :offtopic:

Louie can be a girls name too... cute, and so is she. ;) With Kaz's guesstimate on age, I'd be waiting 4-5 months (just to be safe), and then breeding if she's in condition then (if you want to)

I think we are all agreed she is a very pretty young thing, how about Louise? Can't say I have heard of a girl called Louie Maesie, mind you i don't watch women's wrestling!

I've known a few Louie's... Some had it as a nickname/short for Louise, and one that was her name :D , and none of them were women wrestlers :D

Name meanings...
