Posted June 2, 200915 yr I have had Tequila for 5 days now and l'm beginning to tame her. So far l have been spending alot of time with her. I have been softly speaking to her and whistling to her. At first she would sit really far away in a corner of her cage but she has been slowly coming nearer to me. When l put my hand in to change her water and food, she sits on her perch and watches me but she does not run away and she is not skittish. Right now l would like to try and get her used to my hand. At the moment l'm not sure what to use as a treat. Since she has not touch her millet seeds For the mean time l will just put my hand in slowly and hold my hand still for a few minutes and talk to her continuously, ever time l go by her cage. While l'm taming her, l will try to include some photos of my progress with her Here is a picture of my pretty girl (sorry about the bars being in the way)
June 2, 200915 yr 5 days she is still brand new and getting adjusted if you wait you will probably see over the course of the month she will starts to eat her millet spray if you just leave it in there, she probably won't take food from your hand at this point so I would just work with having her step up and then down or just leaving your hand in there for short intervals. Merlin didn't eat millet either in the beginning.

June 10, 200915 yr Author l have some good news!! First of all, yesterday was the first time she touched her millet seeds and today l gave her a little more millet and she devoured it. So now l can use the millet seeds as a reward Secound good news is Tequila is getting use to my hand. So l took her to the bathroom to let her fly around. She perched in my hand for awhile before exploring. She also sat on my finger to put her back into her small cage. Then l took her back to her cage. I took a picture while she was perching on my hand, my hand looks funny because l had my hand cupped. Here she is exploring Hang out l forgot to mention one other good news, since she is getting use to my hand, she doesn't try to bite me!! I'm so happy about that. l figured since she is a female she would bite my but boy was l wrong about that. I noticed also today that she is starting to molt. l can start to see pins, which you can see some in the pictures. Taming Tequila is so far going smoothly
June 13, 200915 yr Author Today l had Tequila in her traveling cage beside me all evening. Just to hang out in the living room with my family. She was nervous with all the noise but l decided that l will do this everyday with her, so she gets used to noise and to kids. l'm also going to put her in a slightly smaller cage, so l can take her anywhere in the house with me. After l feel she is getting tamer l will move her back into her larger cage. A little off topic but l noticed today that she looks like she is a violet but my camera doesn't pick it up.
June 13, 200915 yr She's beautiful. Are you sure she's a girl? I would be sitting on the fence about that one I think. It's hard to tell from photos though, but I guess with the lighter nostrils that's probably why you're saying girl. We've had Piccolo 6 days now, and he seems to be at a fairly similar stage of taming to Tequila. The only thing I have found though about taming both of mine (and others in the past) is that I don't do any of my taming in the cage anymore. This is different to how most people do it. But I find that if they get frightened in their cage and flap about, because it's a confined space they panic and flap, and then they associate that memory every time that I put my hand in even to do anything. So I try to keep the cage completely safe and non-threatening. What I have been doing with Piccolo is putting his cage on the floor, with the front wide open. If he comes out to explore, then I do some stepping up and stuff, and he's free to go back into his cage by himself at any time. It seems like you've started having time out of the cage with Tequila too. Will be watching this thread eagerly as I tame mine too

Will be watching this thread eagerly as I tame mine too l'm actually not 100% sure about her gender either, at times l think she is a male. when the cere change colour l will then know for sure I also find taming her outside of the cage seems to work for me. When l let her out in the bathroom, she will sit on me and l take her bell ball out to play with her. So far she just looks at me like l'm crazy, lol.
June 13, 200915 yr lol... she's such a sweetie and I have a feeling you guys will have a very special relationship!
June 19, 200915 yr Author lol... she's such a sweetie and I have a feeling you guys will have a very special relationship! awww...thanks!! My progress with Tequila has been going steady. However this post l'm writing is more on her gender then my taming her. l'm really thinking that she is in fact a boy. For one thing, l know in some photo's the cere looks like it has white but when l look at the cere daily l see no white? Another thing is Tequila has bit me only once when l took her out of the box the first day but she/he was scared, Tequila has not bit me since. Tequila also is calling out to outside birds and is very vocal during the day unlike a hen is. Tequila has me stumped with the gender issue. l'm so curious to see if infact she is a he or a she?
June 19, 200915 yr mmm, I know when I had Gucci and Dolce inside, they never bit me... and they also 'talked' to each other and the outside birds... and they were 100% female. Can you get some more pictures maybe? Edited June 19, 200915 yr by maesie
June 19, 200915 yr Author sure, l will get more pictures up today. need to get my camera out ~~~~~~~~Edit~~~~~~~~ Okay, l got some more pictures. After zooming into my pictures, l'm 100% positive that Tequila is indeed a BOY!!!! The pictures ~~~~~~~~~ Today, l tried for the first time to give Tequila a treat by hand. l got her oops l meant him, lol! l need to get use to saying him I got him out of his cage and placed him into my traveling cage. This time l stayed in my room and l slowly put my hand in his cage with some millet seed. l held the millet seed with the tip of my finger and l offered it to him. At first he just stood on his perch and starred at it. l slowly went closer to him and finally l was near his beak. He never moved or flinched. l gently touched his beak with the millet seed and viola he started to eat from my finger tip l was able to capture him on video, eating from my hand. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XpWTIzofaGg He looks funny in the video because l do not think he likes the camera, he keeps looking at it, lol. July 6, 200915 yr Author Any Tequila updates birdluv??? Yes, the taming has been going slow right now. He seemed to have went backwards. l had to grab him to put him in his traveling cage to go out of town and he did not like that. so now he is skittish around my hand again. I'm gettinng him to trust my hand again but it is a slow process. l'm sure it will not be long until he is tamed
July 11, 200915 yr Author That happened to me when I was taming Cosmo, but it worked out okay in the end That is good to know that it not only happened to me Tequila has improved alot, he is not skittish of my hand anymore. Edited July 11, 200915 yr by birdluv
August 19, 200915 yr Author Hey guys, Sorry for not keeping this journal up to date. So here is a little update. I have unfortunately not been keeping up my taming with Tequila as much as before but l have not stopped all together. I still talk to him and l put my hand in his cage. He did not really want to come on to my hand even if l offered him millet. It almost seemed like he was sulking because l wasn't spending as much time with him as before. Today, l took him into the bathroom. l tried to see if he would sit on my finger with out any millet(l forgot it in my room ) He looked at my hand and he stepped up onto my finger I'm taking it slow with Tequila. I'm going to keep on taking him into the bathroom daily, to keep up with the taming. Sorry for no pictures, l cannot find my recharger for the batteries, so l will have to buy another. I will post pictures as soon as l can Edited August 19, 200915 yr by birdluv
