Is Sunny's cere normal? It has never turned completely blue yet, and he acts like he hasn't matured fully even..he acts young..his cere still has pink as you can see..And yet Banshee is younger than him, acts like an adult bird, and has a deep blue cere. Why?

Sunny's cere is normal. personally i think he is taking a bit longer to reach breeding maturity. His cere to me is one of a cock that is not in ideal breeding condition.

Sunny is a Sky Blue Violet Goldenface. Why do you ask?

I ask because many times you will find in dominant pieds that they can go half blue and still have that pink on them, I agree with Liv on her conclusion that his cere is just maturing at a slower rate or he is younger then you thought?

from what i can see, he looks alot younger then 13 months, i would say around 8-9 months as for the 15th month old, he could be alot younger then 15 months, but as liv said, hes either a "late bloomer" or is not in breeding condition

Have you introduced him to any other hen's before?

Yes this is as stated a Cock bird that is not at full/condition they all reach at different times We humans reach adult hood at different times so its not incorrect that budgies are that much different in there ways

Banshee is definetly 13 months, no doubt about that, I bred him so I know the exact day he was hatched. Sunny was about 3 months old when I got him, and that was around 10 months ago, though I wasn't sure of his age then, he could be younger. Have I introduced him to any other hens? He lives in the aviary with 5 other hens..so I'd say the answer to that would be yes.

So basically he is just maturing late. Fair enough, that is what I guessed, just wanting to make sure nothing was wrong or anything.

Thanks all.
