Hi guys, I'm a noob, will introduce myself tomorrow, just had a look around, looking for how many budgies I can fit into my aviary, and seen a lot of numbers quoted, but cannot find any sort of formula, is there one, and if so can someone please post it for me?

There is sometimes a formula for minimum perch space that applies but best way is for you to say the size and people who are expereinced will advise the best quantity for the space based on their knowledge and experience ( also breeding or not in the space ....colony breeding or not....comes into it too )

There is a code of practice for housing cage birds by the department of primary industries victoria

Exemption (Budgerigar Breeders). A minimum floor area of 600sq cm should be provided for each bird where budgerigars of one sex are housed together during the non-breeding season. The total floor area of this aviary/cage should not be less than 20,000 sq cm.

 

It is a guideline. Perch space is probably more important. No use having an enormous aviary if there are no perches in it.
