Chemicals That Should A Breeder Obtain

Featured Replies

Posted

Hi ,

I am new to the forum and not sure if I am sending this under the right heading , if not I would appreciate some help forthe correct location .

It is always not well possible o find locally specific products that are dedicated to budgerigars and their breeders , after spending time in reading the forum , I have decided to obtain Vetafarm Calcivet via an Australian shop that offers international sales .

As it will be more beneficial to get the vital produts (for a breeder) all together rather than ordering them one by one , I would like to learn your suggestions for such products .

Thanks in advance .

I made a topic similar to this a few months ago.

I have, calcivet

Moulting aid http://www.vetafarm.com.au/products/MOULTING-AID-1L.html

coccivet http://www.vetafarm.com.au/products/COCCIVET-250mL.html

D nutrical, its not a necessity but I use it for vitamin and mineral supplements, other choices are soluvet and f-vite.

Apple cidar vinegar (can be obtained from a local shopping center)

Triple c - All purpose anti biotic. http://www.vetafarm.com.au/products/TRIPLE-C-100g.html

Avi clens - http://www.vetafarm.com.au/products/AVICLENS-500mL.html

Avian insect liquidator - http://www.vetafarm.com.au/products/AVIAN-...RATE-100mL.html

ivermectin spot on

Wormout gel - http://www.vetafarm.com.au/products/WORMOUT-GEL-100mL.html

This is a very personal thing actually.

I use:

Calcivet - Vetafarm - calcium supplement

Breeding Aid - Vetafarm - amino acid and fatty acid supplement

Psittavet (vet only) - Vetafarm - psittacosis treatment

Moxi - T (vet only) - Rob Marshall - broad spectrum anitbiotic for emergency treatments

Ronnivet (vet only) - Vetafarm - canker treatment

Soluvet Plus - Vetafarm - Water soluble vit/min/iodine supplement - I will probably change to the new Soluvet with vit D once this batch finished

Ivomec Pour-On for Cattle (or similar generic) - Merial (Norbrook and Bayer also make generics) - via rural merchandise store

Budgie Starter - soft food mix

Hand Rearing Mix - Emergency crop feeding of youngsters

Calicium/iodine blocks - pet shop or club purchased

Others as you can see from Pearce's post use different products for the same things and some leave out stuff like soft food mixes, soluble vitamins etc. Generally over time you will find a system and the products that work for you and your birds but as a minimum if you have a reasonable sized flock I would have -

Psittacosis treatment 1x per year

Canker treatment at least 1x per year

Wormer of some description

Lice and mite treatment

Calcium supplement for breeding birds

Broad spectrum anitbiotic for emergency treatments

Cuttlebone or calcium blocks for flights

Hey Pearce. Why do you use Ivomec Spot-On treatement AND Wormout Gel? Ivomec Spot-On treatment does mites, lice AND worms.

Hi Nubbly I bought the worm out gel before I found out ivermectin spot on does the worms to.

But I still use the wormout gel for the aviary birds, purely because It would take a fair bit of ivermectin and I would be bitten to death treating all the birds.

For cage birds and breeders I use the ivermectin.

I would be bitten to death treating all the birds.

:)

Oh yeah and I forgot the Coccivet - Vetafarm - for coccidiosis treatment and prevention same as Pearce.

looking at Nubblys post I remembered a few other things I have.

Paswells hand rear mix. Ive only had to use it once but it is good for the baby birds when they need a top up.

Calcium and iodine blocks also charcoal blocks

Thanks all for all the replies .

Twice a week I add 100 gr for 100 lt drinking water a vitamin blend named Bavitsol , rarely Form-Vit and during high temperatures Cool-E

Below are their ingreedents ,

Bavitsol : (In 100 gr)

6.000.000 İÜ Vitamin A, 500.000 İÜ Vitamin D3, 5000 İÜ Vitamin E, 5 mcg Vitamin K3, 2000 mg Vitamin B1, 1000 mg Vitamin B2, 2500 mg Vitamin B6, 1000 mg Vitamin B12, 10.000 mg Vitamin C, 15.000 mg Niasin, 5000 mg Calcium Pantotenat, 2000 mg Folic acid, 20 mg Biotin, 1500 mg Lysin ve 1000 mg Metiyonin

Form-Vit : (In 100 gram)

5.000.000 İÜ Vitamin A, 500.000 İÜ Vitamin D3, 3.000 İÜ Vitamin E, 15.000 mg Vitamin C, 2.000 mg Vitamin B1, 2.500 mg Vitamin B2, 1000 mg Vitamin B6, 5 mg Vitamin B12, 1000 mg Vitamin K3, 500 mg folic asid, 15.000 mg Niasin, 5.000 mg calcium pantotenat ve 20 mg Biotin

Cool-E : (In 1.000 gr)

50.000 mg Vitamin C, 170.000 mg Sodium, 250.000 mg Chlor, 60.000 mg Potasium, 250.000 mg Lys ve 350.000 mg Glucose

Normally for the calcium supply , I add crushed hard boiled egg shells to the softfood served daily and tried Calcidine before , the blend is with D2 instead of D3 which is not good . Do you think to use Calcivet twice a week with the egg shells added (only the ones used when preparing the soft food , not additionally) could cause an overdose ?

The only chemical i disagree with is avi clens.. its bleach based and, yes it cleanses the water, but also kills all the good flora in the birds gut. best to just clean drinkers daily.
