okay guys we are going to start count down for the 2009 Nationals in Burnie Tasmania.

Date 23rd - 24th May.

Currently 2 1/2 weeks to go.

South Queensland is starting club selections this weekend. These go through till the 16th May. My Club, Pine Rivers will be holding theirs on the 16th May.

On the 17th May South Queensland will hold the Interclub Challenge (preselection) where the SQ Team will be selected. These will be from the 12 clubs in SQBBA.

The SQ Team will then go into Camp where they are all checked by a vet and prepared for the journey and preliminary preparations for the Nationals.

good luck to everyone that makes it to nationals... Is anyone planing on going (even if you arn't showing)?

I wish.

This may seem off topic Daz but you know a normal show. What process is done with reguards to quarantine? What if a bird has a disease and is not showing it and gives it to all the other birds at the show? Is their a procedure to stop all this?'

Good luck to everyone competing to get into the nationals :)

As far as i am concerned, if you make it to the nationals, regardless of placement, you have one of the 14 top birds of its type in Australia :D

Our selection is Tuesday night and then the selected birds go to Melbourne for the young bird shield on Sunday the 17th May then I think there is a panel of 10 judges that go around and pick the birds for the Nationals and I was told it is not nessecary the ones that win on the day it could be birds that came 15th which I find wierd. You would think it would be 1st 2nd and 3rd that got picked to go. Ithink the marjority is but not nessecarily.

Well my count down is I have 12 birds I am preparing but the best white double factor , I don't think will make it to the selection but I still have 6 days so he may be right. His brother not sure either but if he does make it and if he does do well their is a great story behind that bird.

Most of them still have pinfeathers and some have blood on their heads from blood feathers. I am waiting on tails and flight feathers.

What a pain. :D

Thanks Jimmy going to need it, besides my birds my car is playing up, The light switch you turn the lights on high is packing it in and so the lights flick off at night while driving VERY SCAREY and it's leaking oil badly, need a rocket gasket thingy and yesterday the radiator started leaking god everything happens at once being trying to save to 4 tyres, mind you I haven't been able to save much :D

So I have been asking Greg to take me to the meeting Tuesday night and the shield but all he says is we will see, UGGHHHH

Good luck to everyone competing to get into the nationals

No that is not correct,If you get abird to the National, it is the top bird in your state, but the weaker states, the

birds may be a long way off the mark, the first 4 to 6 birds would be classed as the best, but after that the gap

widens.between good birds & best from the state they repersent. :)

Thats a bit harse Macka - We have all heard the comment " got better birds at home" But fortunately birds are not judged at home.

The current system of each state/zone entering 2 birds in each class is fair and equitable for all.

Whilst you are technical correct Macka, that the stronger states 3, 4 or 5 bird could be better than the smaller states 1 or 2 birds. That is not the way the show operates. A bird placed 14th the National Show is 14th best bird in the country, no question!!!!!!

Did you go to the nationals last year Renee?

Yes, I did! It was an awsome experience but I ended up missing my hubby terribly. I remember on the Saturday night Kaz, I and Trish Van Dyke sat around talking about the absent husbands  By this time I was completely budgied-out!

During the day I helped out with the stewarding (carrying the birds to and from the staging where they were being judged) I was so anxious and petrified 'cause I was sure I was going to drop a budgie or something and bring disgrace to my state! I signed up for the stewarding thinking it would be a nice cushy job and a great opportunity to see the birds .... HUH! We were up at the crack of dawn and because of the way we had to carry the show cages you hardly had a moment to even look at a bird or two! Quite frankly after lugging all those cages to and from the venue I was completely over it all!

But I wouldn't have missed it for the world! It was so exciting with the point system and every body baracking for their own states and the socials were great fun too!

I love budgies and talking about budgies so I was in heaven and alternatively *** with the stewarding- only kidding!

I recall Renee gave up a fantastic dinner to go home early to her husband whom she missed so much

As a judge Heath, you should know better.then to say that, the 14th bird is the best bird in the country, its the 14th

best in the line up.But never 14th best in the country,I am not being harsh, just stateing a fact. There are a lot

of "breeders" on here will be getting the wrong signl, if they think that the birds at the end of the line in a lot

of cases,are a top budgie.
