Posted May 26, 200916 yr My new (ish) bird has started his moult, now he is almost 3 months old. I'm just making sure, he is a 'he' right? His cere is pink and I think it is starting to turn blue, that is why he sometimes looks like a female in some lights. I'm pretty certain he is a boy though, just wanted to make sure. Also, you can see the colour of his cheek patches in that photo. Is he Mauve or Grey? (I think he is Mauve..)
May 26, 200916 yr Author Yes. Here are some: So, male or female? I hope not female, I bought him really to even up my flock, with 2 males for 5 females I need more boys!
May 26, 200916 yr Author Are you sure it's not just because his/her cere is turning blue that it looks like a female's? I've looked through pictures of Sunny at that age, and compared it to Coal's..(his/her name) and I have to admit, Sunny's cere was a definite dark-ish pink with blue around the nostrils..while the pictures (and in real life, the pics of him I posted are the same as it looks from here) of Coal have his cere as a much lighter pink and there is white around his nostrils.. But compared to, say, Kato's cere--her being the same age as him--she is obviously a female..her cere is white with a bit of blue, and even now is turning brown. So why would Coal not look like Kato, if he/she is female? Anyway, just some things I was wondering, though now you've got me convinced Coal is a girl...if he/she is, then I'm overrun with females!
May 26, 200916 yr Does the cere look whitish like the photos show here ? If whitish in any way, it is female.
