How often do they get hormonal or in breeding condition?

I mean the times they get the crusty brown cere and get all moody.

How often does that happen?

4 times a year or so? Or I'm totally off ? :)

Just curious :D

I was looking for a definite answer on that the other day.

I don't think it is actually in the FAQs - someone might like to add it to the "hens in breeding condition" page, perhaps. Maybe I'm blind, but I couldn't find it anywhere :D

There are triggers that bring a hen into breeding condition and I really dont think you can define it in terms of how many times a year. A single pet type hen in a cage inside for instance is most likely very different to a breeding hen or a hen in a mixed aviary.

Yes, I do mean a single pet type hen.

Ah I see how it would be diffcult to tell though... thank you. :D

How long do they stay in breeding condition?

There is no cut and dried period of time or times of the year for all this kind of thing. Breeding condition acts off triggers i.e. stimulants..............partner or not, time of year, condition of health, amount of food, type of food....etc. There will be no set time periods you can guarantee on. All birds based on the conditions stated will set their own "body clock".
