Normal Budgies With Pied Genes?

Featured Replies

Posted

What does it exactly mean when a normal budgie has a spot on the back of its head? I read somewhere that it meant it had a pied gene? if so is it a dominant gene or recessive?

Thanks,

-Corina

I'm pretty sure that you can't have a bird that's split for Dominant Pied it can be double factor Dominant Pied but no splits so the spot would have to be a Recessive Pied indicator since you can have birds split for Recessive Pied. Anyone more knowledgable correct me if I'm wrong :D

The small spot indicates SPLIT FOR RECESSIVE PIED. You cannot hide a dominant gene like dominant pied......it either is one or it isnt. We have a whole topic on this split recessive spot on this forum.

Wow... You learn something new every day... :D
