Ari's Wing Markings

Featured Replies

Just for the sake of curiousity, I'm wondering if the weird markings on Ari's wings are normal, and if they will stay after her moult? (though she is a little over 2 months now so not too long til she moults anyway) I'm mainly wondering why her wings are like that, if it actually means anything or if she is just special?

You can see the strange looking markings between her wings..

Thanks for any help on this. :)

yes she is normal, after they molt they loose the barring on the head and it recides and the striping may look different but it is normal striping pattern for a budgie.

Okey dokey I just haven't seen the strange markings between her wings before (on other birds), I guessed it would go after she moulted..pity though, it looks kind of cool.

If your talking about the washed out wing markings they might not necessarily leave her after she moults and they aren't exactly typical, at least I haven't seen to many budgies like that. On the picture of her from the back she looks like she has no wing markings in patches at all.

She's a cute little bird regardless, I'd like to try and breed minature budgies one day. When you look at how much bigger they've got with selective breeding imagine what we could get if we went the other way :)

She is just beautiful... Oh and I think she is very special budgie... :D ... She will make her owner, you jen, very proud... Just look at that face... Love... B)

Yes that's exaclty what I'm talking about. She has this V shape between her wings, and then on either side of that there's no markings at all, then her normal wing patterns start again further down her wings. It's quite strange. And something about the patterns inside that V shape are unusual too..

Yeah I think that would be very interesting to see...a budgie the size of a finch, for instance..That would look so weird!

wow that is a very beautiful budgie! :D

Jen do some reading up on breeding the smaller budgies, it has been done and from what I have read and heard that they are not as healthy as the larger budgies, some of the mutations tend to be on the smaller side like your recessive pieds and ino (I believe too).

As with the washed out marking that comes with the cinnamon gene it tends to give the body a more diluted look.
