Posted May 21, 200916 yr Hi folks, Would it be okay to use 2 breeding cabinets that are joined together as a flight/holding cage for young and non-breeding birds? They are the standard breeding cabinets that have had the divider removed.
May 21, 200916 yr As long as they cannot see a nestbox in the slightest possible way. An 70's yr old show breeder recently put a 12 week old and others in a similar environment and found the 12 week old hen had laid a full clutch of eggs.
May 21, 200916 yr There will definitely be no nest box in sight. Strictly holding only. I have a lead on a bank of 6 (3 x 2) for $50 local to me.
May 21, 200916 yr I have done that but I block the breeding boxes up but after one 12 week old chewed her way into the box I decided that I was going to have to remove the boxes all together

May 21, 200916 yr It won't be an option as the nest boxes are hung on the front of these. They simply won't be hung on the ones used as holding cages.
