Posted May 19, 200915 yr I thought you might like to know, had a non bird person in the house and my sister was telling them about Elmo and how he is like a 2 year old and then the little show off and I ended up doing this. Elmo - Hello AV - Hello Elmo - out out out please AV - fine you can come up but no flying out of the room Elmo - ooooo good boy AV - okay yours a good boy Elmo - whatcha doing? AV - just finding this number for this gentleman Elmo - oooooo *pause Elmo is fasinated with the guys hair piece, I could see that not ending well* Elmo - nut? AV - no you get your nut when you get dinner Elmo - dinner? AV - no you don't get dinner till after Anna finishes hers Elmo - *progressively getting louder and louder* Anna... Anna... ANNA... ANNNNNNA Anna - WHAT! Elmo - nut? Anna - fine have a nut you little s**t head (note to self get her to stop calling him that cause he will pick it up) Anna hands Elmo a nut Elmo - ta I thought the guy was going to pass out, he was like "he talks to you, he knows what you are saying, he understands..." now I know that Elmo is responding to audio cues and also associates certain words with getting certain things. He knows if he says out he will be allowed out. he knows if he says nut he will 9 times out of 10 get a nut. The thing I find funny is that he can't just say "Anna" he does the three or four repeat getting louder and louder I figure that is the way i call her when i am in the study. Anyway thought you might get a laugh
May 20, 200915 yr Author I am trying to get him to talk on a video but he seems to go in moods some nights i am like to get a hello and others we have full on conversations. Need to see up a spy cam I think!
May 20, 200915 yr I LOVE it. Shades of "Paulie". When I see that movie, I just want it to be possible. Of all creatures, parrots alone attempt to imitate our speech. When I read your script, it was easy to see how your visitor could have wondered whether your bird had in fact moved on from imitation.
May 20, 200915 yr SOOOOOOOOOOO AWESOME!!! I hope he lets you take a video as this sounds priceless :bluebudgie: He sounds very intelligent :bliss:
May 21, 200915 yr Author what kind of nut do you give him? like an acorn? macadamia nuts are his fav at the moment sometimes he like almonds or walnuts. I LOVE it. Shades of "Paulie". When I see that movie, I just want it to be possible. Of all creatures, parrots alone attempt to imitate our speech. When I read your script, it was easy to see how your visitor could have wondered whether your bird had in fact moved on from imitation. I love that movie. It was just one of those fluke things. Some nights I can not make out a word his says other nights it's a clear as day and then he will get a new word and use it for everything. At the moment he is trying to say yes so we get lots of esssss esssss essssss which is cute SOOOOOOOOOOO AWESOME!!! I hope he lets you take a video as this sounds priceless :bluebudgie: He sounds very intelligent :bliss: Thanks I think he is, I find it funny as everyone told me Kings where bad talkers if they talked at all so I never taught him to talk never even really picked up on it until pippi told me he was saying whatcha doing over and over again and then I started to tune my ear into his talking. I am researching on how to teach them to talk better at the moment as I have put little or no effort into him speach but he has picked it up anyway.
