Posted May 18, 200915 yr how come my budgies only breed up to five eggs? i give them cuttlefish, food and water. they have never laid 6 or more
May 22, 200915 yr Kaz is right, depends on the size and the type, for example if your hen is a english show budgie which are the larger types, they can lay anywhere to 12 eggs, (mine had 9) where as the australian budgies which lack the size compared to the show budgies only have little amounts which can be anywhere from 3-6
May 22, 200915 yr Disagree matt.. I had a 'pet type' and she laid 12 (I think), so the type of budgie makes no difference.
May 22, 200915 yr 5 ggs is a good average clutch. Besides, its how many that are fertile that is really important. Hypothetically, you could have 7 eggs and only 3 fertiles, obvioulsy depending on a number of factors of both birds(hen and cock).Or you could have 3 eggs and 3 fertile. But that is the average amount. good luckAgreed maesie,my little recessive pied is a little machine, she lays large cluthes first round (10-12) eggs and second round 6-7 eggs. She is just a normal sized budgie.
May 22, 200915 yr I always happy if my lay eggs... But than again I guess I'm easily pleased... But 5 is a great average to get all the time... Like everyone has said, every budgie is different... I believe it depends on many factors... age (mature, old, young), diet (during and after breeding season), lifestyle condition (how clean the aviary is, containers, etc) and much more... Oh and even the male can have an effect on the females breeding too, example clear eggs...
May 22, 200915 yr well i was going by my experience so far lol, all my show's have layed large clutchs where my pet types have layed small clutchs of around 5
