Posted May 13, 200916 yr The last few weeks Lemon's nose has started to brown up, but since then she has also started to get a bit aggresive against poor Confetti. Whatever he is doing she has to go over and take it from him, if he is eatting his lettuce or bean, she'd force him to leave so she can have it, if he's eatting seed from the bowl at the bottom, she wants it, so he moves upto the other seed, she shoves in. She always takes digs at him too, or 'pushes' him off the perch when he's minding his own business.. So why is she doing it? Is it cause she is growing up, should I seperate the two for a while? Help
May 13, 200916 yr Yes she is growing up when a hen's cere starts to turn brown it means that they are going in to breeding condition (kind of like a dog in season) it doesn't mean she needs to breed but this is a time where they will get bossy, cranky and start looking for places to nest. Provide her wth more stimulation like letting her out more of her cage for fun, change the cage around and give her different things to chew and play with if you provide extra stimulation you can help her through this stage. As she comes out of condition her cere will start to turn a light brown or a very pale blue.
May 13, 200916 yr do not worry, she is just coming into breeding condition, spend more time with her and offer her more treats and such as this can be a stressful time for a hen especially when they have nowhere to nest and such
May 13, 200916 yr Oh nooooo! Breeding condition! HORMONES! CRANKY! Get her something soft, wooden, and chewable lol. LOTS OF CHEWY THINGS. Eucalyptus leaves and branches i find are perfect amusement, entertainment, chewable toys and all sorts. NOM NOM NOM.
May 14, 200915 yr Author It would probably explain why she was so obsessed with her swing and then started to destroy it lol!
