I was in the living room watching tv with flye on my shoulder, and then he flapped out the door and into the kitchen. my dog rushed at him and got him in his jaws, but didn't bite or anything like that. what happens when a bird goes into shock? flye is eating, drinking, and going about his cage. also, how do you know when a bird hurt it's wing or leg or something like that? i checked him out and i don't think this happened, but just to be sure.

please help!

i'm so scared

id take you bird to the vet right away just incase!

always keep an eye on where you pets are so something like this doesnt happen

is he eating, drinking, acting and flying normally? if he is i would say he is okay. i would check out where your local bird vet is just in case anything should happen suddenly. how long ago did it happen, because if shock is going to kill i was always told it would happen quickly 30 min ish.

p.s no offence BrokenDreamz but saying someone sould watch their pet doesnt really help the situation. accidents happen and there is nothing can be done, no matter how much of an eye you keep on them

i would say he okay if he seems okay but keep a close eye on him.

you can tell if a bird has hurt a wing becuase it will droop down slightly compared to the other side or they will hold the wing away from the body slightly if it is painful, with a foot, there may be visible bruising or they may just sit on one foot a lot of shift from on leg to the other a lot.

i would definitely get your budgie to an avian vet asap because shock can be very dangerous to such a small bird.

i hope your little budgie is okay but i think his confidence and trust may be damaged now so do not be to suprised if your budgie isnt as tame as he used to be, or starts to bite. with a little more affection than usual you should beable to get him back to his old self soon if this happens.

you cant change what happened and yes accidents do happen, but i think there is a lesson to be learned here. tina i would have a think if there was anything you could have done differently that would have stopped this from happening, so that it wont happen again :( in my house i check that all doors and windows are closed before i let the budgies out of their cage (even though they were both clipped and cannot fly long distances yet) and also i have made little signs that i sometimes put on doors around the house making sure that everyone is aware that the budgies are out. just an idea you might like to use in the future.

let us know how you get on at the vets, if you cant get him to a vet soon then the best thing to do is keep him warm by putting a blanket over 3 sides of the cage so that he will feel a bit calmer.

Sooo by that logic, if you're watching your bird closely and a cat walks into the room you're saying that nothing can be done to prevent this cat from attacking the bird? :)

I think all that brokendreamz meant was that we should all learn from our mistakes and next time, keep a better eye on things so that it doesn't happen again.

That said, I hope the budgie is doing okay and I agree that it should probably just get a quick look over by an avian vet or at least be closely monitored. Budgies can be so fragile. :(

Accidents do happen though, I've had my share of them. It's not fun, but we learn and then prevent them.

what if your cat has never attacked your bird before? and i wasnt just talking about other pets. i mean everything in the room. i mean skittle nearly knocked himself out on the ceiling but other than keep him locked in his cage, there was nothing that could be done.

i took flye to the vet and he was fine! :) woo hoo!!!!

:) That?s fantastic just remember next time put the dog out side

He may have thought it was a toy and just caught it like a ball or something

I always turn off the fans and cover any hot things before I let my little patch out for a fly he is the only one I have inside the house

I if he had an accident I would really stress out

As he talks all day must know about fifty words by now and he is only two years old
