Posted May 13, 200916 yr Last night we had our selection for the young bird shield, I took along 11 birds and I had 5 selected to go to Melbourne on Sunday. I was really happy with that as there were a lot of birds there and the quality of most of them was outstanding. The best thing is I am going to Melbourne this time Greg is taking me for my birthday present. So Jimmy if you go I might see you there, If you look for the shortest women their with blonde hair you will find me isn't that right Macka But please don't call me splat I might thump you My name is Julie I am looking forward to it so much because my birds have been to 3 shields without me. Here are the birds that have been selected The 2 violets and the 2 White DF Spangles brothers and the sky Cinnamon Spangle but she is in the hens class
May 13, 200916 yr Beautiful birds. Congratulations. This is where I get a little confused... How is the hen classed as Sky Cinnamon Spangle. My idea of that variety is a darker bird, like a normal Sky Blue but with Cinnamon and Spangle markings. Is there another mutation in the mix to make her lighter?

May 13, 200916 yr Author That's why she is in the hen class because cinnamon spangles don't do well at shows and really she is a really good bird but because she is cinnamon and faded she is classed at bad variety. I was happy with the decision because I thought she would be better in the hens class and not the spangle class. Yes Liv really excited.
May 13, 200916 yr Thanks for clearing that up. Learn something new every day. I have seen some fairly dark cinnamons though.
May 13, 200916 yr I am so very thrilled for you Julie .......really excited for you Have all my fingers and toes crossed....makes typing hard
May 13, 200916 yr Author That's the problem with this hen she is a bit washed out in her colour she would almost pass for a dilute
May 13, 200916 yr Author Thanks Kaz and Macka, I Have my fingers crossed too but their is going to be top birds there much better than mine, but what I like best about a shield is that the judges can't tell if you are a beginner or a champion so you have more chance if your bird is good.
May 13, 200916 yr that is great new Splat, if I get there I'll try and remember to call you julie Best of luck to you!
May 13, 200916 yr That's why she is in the hen class because cinnamon spangles don't do well at showsIf they are better than any other spangle they are up against they do.......I had a hen that made it onto the top bench and she was cinnamon spangle....beat the pants off the normal spangles.:happy-dancing: Thanks Kaz and Macka, I Have my fingers crossed too but their is going to be top birds there much better than mine, but what I like best about a shield is that the judges can't tell if you are a beginner or a champion so you have more chance if your bird is good.Julie............I think you will be surprised at how well you will do with your birds, now and in the future. May 13, 200916 yr Splat your spangle line is amazing... I really do think they are. I know I've not seen many show birds in person but thats my humble opinion. You have some fantastic birds now and you're only going to improve into the future.
May 14, 200916 yr Author Thanks everyone. Kaz that cinnamon sky spangle came second at the uncapped shield. Gee I am really excited everyone is saying that the violets will do well, I have orders for their young all ready I bloke said he will pay me top money cool I don't mind Ha Ha first I have to work out how to breed violets as it just happened but I guess the hen is violet at least that's a start.
May 15, 200916 yr Author Bad news Greg has sprained his ankle now I don't if he will take me to the shield or not as he can hardly walk. Don't know what to do
May 15, 200916 yr Author Me to Shannon but it is the size of a balloon almost. I new it was to good to be true for me to go
May 15, 200916 yr awww splat I hope you can make it! That would be really disapointing for you if you couldn't make it...
May 15, 200916 yr Author It's just awful Jimmy, I will have to ask Heath or someone to take my birds for me and I stay home again But Greg wants me to wait till tomorrow to see how his foot is.
May 15, 200916 yr Poor Greg................icebag the ankle. You cant drive Julie ? Edited May 15, 200916 yr by KAZ
May 15, 200916 yr Author Not in Melbourne Kaz plus Greg wouldn't let me anyway as it is his car he would be scared I would crash . I am a good driver but I am really scared of driving Melbourne and outskirts of Melbourne I am a country driver. My car is stuffed lights switch is paling up so lights flick on and off as you are driving really scary and just as I was going to a another one $75.00 second hand the radiator started leaking, so hole in radiator and then the next day alternator went, So you can see my car is a bomb.
May 16, 200916 yr Author WE ARE GOING YIPPI Very stressed about birds though, I did the spots on the violets and the plainer one of the too must of got stressed because his feathers at the top of his chest are now ruffled and sticking up, I sprayed him lightly on his front today hoping they would go down but no.. AND the 2 white double factors have blood on the side of their wings and I was told to wash where the blood is with baby shampoo which made it much worse. So aggrrhhh Oh well these things happen.
