Featured Replies

I was wondering, seeing that my budgie's are in the prime of laying their eggs, What are some good examples of soft food calcium supplements?...

All info is much appreciated

Thanks

Calcivet is very good. Surely you have been using calcium prior to breeding ?

well, ive been using cuttlebone Hardboiled Egg and such...just wondering if their was any other's that i should be notified on ;) calcivet is the stuff you put into the bird's water isnt it??

Calcivet can go in soft food. Watch the cuttlebone....I dont have much faith in it as it seems its something budgies play with more than ingest. Hard boiled egg only has calcium if you cook the eggshells and grind them to a powder and put through it too.

Oh....Well that *******! pet shop owner told me it works either way with hardboiled egg,

see, another one of many reason's not to trust pet shop owners....all about $$$ and the brain of a twit...

im only young so im not familar as you guys are so im still learning ;)

The bird needs Vitamin D to process the Calcium. It can't do it alone. Calcivet has vitamin D added for this purpose.

There are other sources of both. I use Calcivet and also True Grit.

I have never come across true grit. But I also use a finely powdered calcium from my bird supply store in addition to calcivet.

Where can I get calcivet?

Petshops hopefully, and any good bird supply store or stockfeed shop.

I normally use calcivet but have changed to calivite PLUS a Colin Walker product and I am finding it great

Ill get some calcivet some time today or tomorrow, and ill put into water, my last hen died without knowing the cause (no injurys) a few weeks back, she had a clutch of 8 so i think she may have been a first timer and was exhausted, and i really dont think her mate was looking after her properly....so im gonna try and get everything possible for the budgie's so i make sure they have no shortage of supply when it comes to calcium
