Posted May 11, 200916 yr if i got a budgie of a top breed but it is small will it sill breed big babys thank you
May 11, 200916 yr its hard to say, it could... Your best bet is to contact the breeder and ask about the birds sibblings... if the breeder is close by even go and check out what it's brothers and sisters look like and what they are producing...
May 11, 200916 yr if i got a budgie of a top breed but it is small will it sill breed big babys thank you You need to see the parentage and siblings shannon.
May 11, 200916 yr A small offspring from large parents is better than a large offspring from small parents. especialy if the oterh ofsprings are small
May 11, 200916 yr I have seen a tiny, pet type looking bird from a top breeder produce AMAZING chicks!!! It's all in the genetics and you will never know what you have until you try them. Some birds look stunning and will produce lousy looking chicks. Some birds will look plain and produce stunning chicks. Some other birds... well they just dont produce, no matter how good or bad they are
May 11, 200916 yr Indeed, it all depend's on the Gene's, i have a little blue opaline hen who is tiny, and she has produced fantastic looking chicks...so it's really all gene's
May 11, 200916 yr As they say. 50% in the genes and 50% through the beak.................. That is so true Daz,the 2 have to go together, one is no good without the other,It cost the same to feed a good bird as a ordenary one.

Exhibition Budgerigars are not bred on seed and water alone
May 11, 200916 yr okay i think i will get him good price Shannon, what are you saying? Are you going to sell him? I wouldn't.
May 11, 200916 yr Most of the time, you are not sure, what 2budgie will breed till you hatch the chicks. The pair have to click, as the saying goes. But you have a better chance of getting good birds out of good birds,A small bird might bred you a good bird, & that bird you mate to another bird & they are all small & you are back were you started. If it was easy to breed good birds,we would all have good birds,But thats not the case,if you breed 50chicks,there may only be a hand full that are worth keeping.I could go on about breeding, but there are more disapointments, then success, that is why,it a revolveing door,a lot give it away, because it to hard.A big % that are trying to breed show budgies, will drop by the wayside.
May 11, 200916 yr See I guess it is perspective... I like the show type bird, but I'm not really interested in showing... I understand why a bunch of people give up and go but I sometimes wonder if its because of the birds or if its because of them being more concerned about winning and not being able to breed "the best" birds according to judges... May 12, 200916 yr Jimmy in the strong clubs,it is very hard for the beginner to win & some think that all budgie are good show budgie. Some people can't tell a good budgie from a ordinary one, that is why they leave, they get disheartened, that there birds are not winning. You only have to read the posts on here, you will have people saying, isnt that alovely budgie & no doubt to them it is,but to a show breeder, they think it very ordinary.
May 12, 200916 yr can't a bird be lovely and not be a good show bird?? Edited May 12, 200916 yr by JimmyBanks
