Posted May 11, 200916 yr Almost bit the bullet yesterday and bought some club rungers but I wanted to check first what their progeny might produce. One pair I'm interested in is a Light Blue-Opaline-Grey Wing-Spangle Cock x Yellow Head-Cobalt-Opaline Hen What might this produce?
May 11, 200916 yr Almost bit the bullet yesterday and bought some club rungers but I wanted to check first what their progeny might produce. One pair I'm interested in is a Light Blue-Opaline-Grey Wing-Spangle Cock x Yellow Head-Cobalt-Opaline Hen What might this produce? I am not too sure mate, a picture of the pair would be very helpful, so we can spot hidden mutation's and such....would it be possible?
May 11, 200916 yr off the top of my head (and I am no expert) Grey wing dilutes the colour of the bird so you might find that it is actually a cobolt greywing... That said I am sure someone will be able to tell you what you can expect either way... hopefully one of the experts will be on soon to help :hap:
May 11, 200916 yr You may well be right. It was a lovely light blue, paler than Sky Blue and I could have mistaken the wing markings for Spangle. It may just in fact be grey wing. I'm no expert.
May 11, 200916 yr Okay assuming it is a Sky Blue Opaline Greywing Spangle boy to a Yellowface Cobalt Opaline hen.. Half Cobalts and half Sky Blues 100% Opalines 50% Yellowfaces (Spangles and Normals) 50% Spangles (yellowfaces and Normals) So you'd get: (with all females being Greywing too) Normal Opaline Spangles Yellowface Opaline Spangles Yellowface Opalines Normal Opalines Not sure about the Greywing, is it sex-linked? If so then all females will be greywings, and males split for it. If it's recessive then you'll have all babies split for it. If it's just a Cobalt Opaline Greywing, you will get: All Cobalts 50% Yellowfaces 100% Opalines All males split for Greywing and all females being Greywing. Edited May 11, 200916 yr by Jen144
May 11, 200916 yr Thanks heaps for that. Sounds like a nice combination. I may have to go back and take another look at them.
May 11, 200916 yr Be careful where you buy them.. there are some good shops and some BAAAAAADDDDD shops.... The bad shops are jam packed with every bird you can think of and i have come across sick, dying and dead birds many times in them. The water is putrid and the food is often gone - the shops are airless and smell bad... i cant name them publicly, but DONT buy from them!!!

Liv is right, if your gonna buy a good pair of budgie's, get them from a breeder, cause then you know they are good quality and have proof they have bred before and they may even have youngen's of that pair so u know what u might get, DONT BUY fromt pet shops
May 11, 200916 yr One pair I'm interested in is a Light Blue-Opaline-Grey Wing-Spangle Cock Are you sure of that mutation ? Sounds like one heck of a composite vartiety Edited May 11, 200916 yr by KAZ
May 11, 200916 yr see i do dissagree. i think if you know the petshop well enough you will beable to know who supplies what bird to the pet shop but of corse if it smells, is dirty and all the obvious dont buy from them. all it takes is a bit of reshearch when possible.
May 11, 200916 yr Well like I said, I'm no expert so I'm probably wrong... WOW...no love for pet shops I see. Actually, the shop these are from sold me a Gouldian hen that carked it this morning. I think she had coccidiosis and never looked good from the day I bought her. I bought a pair of turqs and bourkes from another shop and 1 month later they developed psittacosis. I've contacted 1 breeder and he wants at least $50 each (max $500) for his surplus budgies. I'm only a beginner so what should I do? Breeders are out of my league in terms of price and everyone reckons pet shops are full of diseases...HELP!!!
May 11, 200916 yr that breeder has to be a top breeder... to be asking that much for his birds he has to be going pretty good. Contact your local Budgie club and ask who they would recommend in the club... there would have to some breeders in the club that sell for less than $50...

May 12, 200916 yr Getting ahead of ourselves here doing the genetics bit if the bird does not turn out to be the type described. Photos are a big help...... did you end up getting the birds ? Edited May 12, 200916 yr by KAZ
May 12, 200916 yr No I didn't get them. You all scared me off buying from a pet shop. LOL! I've emailed a few breeders so hopefully they will contact me.
