June 11, 200916 yr Author Omelette was nibbling off the down from all her chicks like she did once before.....so until their full feathers came in they were nearly bald. One that didnt have many feathers at all was moved into Omelette's daughters nestbox and within a few days had regrown the down back again. Before........... and a few days later................
June 11, 200916 yr they look funny when bald, reminds me of that cockatoo that survived the victorian bushfires, he was bald and from old age to, not the fires. if only i lived in perth, i would be eager to buy that grey-green off you when he is older Edited June 11, 200916 yr by mattdog2
June 13, 200916 yr Author NASTY Â was out today. I had changed the nesting materials yesterday so the level in the nestbox was lower so the chicks couldnt get out but she managed just the same When I found her she was having an argument with her father
June 13, 200916 yr I did not realise that Omelette plucked the down off young. Â Oh well, nobody's perfect
June 14, 200916 yr Author I did not realise that Omelette plucked the down off young.Oh well, nobody's perfect  She did it a little with her first chicks, and not at all with the second clutch. She did it with all the chicks in this nest. Just the down not the feathers once they came through. Another thing is....as she has done before, she is already trying to begin a second clutch with her chicks still in the nestbox. I will wait a few days and remove the chicks to a tub on the floor of the breeder cage. Omelette is never worried about being amongst her chicks in the nestbox when laying a second clutch. But with all that activity the eggs can become addled.  Also, I picked up some of Omelette's relatives today to add to my breeding program.  Here is NASTY and the greywing who seems to be a cock The cute little cinnamon grey four of Omelette's the chicks and her two others in other nestboxes.....second youngest youngest and here is two of Omelette's grandchildren These two babies are nieces or nephews of Daves DUMB and DUMBER Edited June 14, 200916 yr by KAZ

June 15, 200916 yr Author Kaz did you ever think it possible to get a Greywing/Dilute from this family???? No not really. But I knew Omelette's breeder has dilutes popping up in her breeding program also. Omelette's mother was Darman bred and carries dilute and greywing as I have since found out. The hen from Darman breeding was the one that brought the dilute factor into this breeders birds. Â an email I got re the mother of Omelette........ As to the Irene and Joe Darman bird, my memory of this is that she was a pied, which cost $600 in a BRASEA auction. We didn't get any details, as we were endeavouring to help Jan establish a stud of Dominant Pieds, and it was just an outcross. (Darmans did have greywings and Jan has from time to time produced dilutes) Edited June 15, 200916 yr by KAZ

Here is the new guys related to Omelette....  Split blue grey green normal cock   his mother   cinnamon opaline grey green dom pied hen  cinnamon opaline cock  cinnamon opaline hen  cinnamon opaline cock   Very nice additions - you do realise that you're going to have GREYGREEN coming out of your ears? No matter, it means you will be able to be very selective with who you keep.
June 15, 200916 yr Author Very nice additions - you do realise that you're going to have GREYGREEN coming out of your ears? No matter, it means you will be able to be very selective with who you keep. Yes, but some are split blue and others I am breeding to blue series to get more blue splits. I also have some of Robs birds to breed them too, so have other colour types too. Just needs planning.

Yep, I noted the splits but you're still going to get more greygreens, it just depends how many depending on the pairings. In any case I've found that it's not the 1st generation that you have to worry about it's the NEXT ones! Now I'm officially in my 3rd breeding season and I have cinnamons, cinnamons and more cinnamons. BUT they are very nice chickies ..... yeah, yeah, yeah - It's not the variety we need to focus on, it's the bird ....
June 15, 200916 yr Author Seems to me its the cinnamons, the opalines and the grey greens that improve most of the birds we breed
June 15, 200916 yr Grey-greens have always been my favorite, but i'm more into breeding Opaline's and spangle's, although i still have a few grey-greens in my aviary
June 15, 200916 yr Author  classic photo's, he definitely looks like grey-wing now Yeah. According to Gerald Binks in his book THE CHALLENGE greywing can hide itself for generations and pop up and surprise you
June 16, 200916 yr  classic photo's, he definitely looks like grey-wing now Yeah. According to Gerald Binks in his book THE CHALLENGE greywing can hide itself for generations and pop up and surprise you Out of all the budgie's you have, is their any dilute's? wether it be gene or visual.

According to Gerald Binks in his book THE CHALLENGE greywing can hide itself for generations and pop up and surprise you Out of all the budgie's you have, is their any dilute's? wether it be gene or visual. I have a dilute dommie pied hen Funnily enough she is from the same line as Omelette...through Omelette's mother. Edited June 16, 200916 yr by KAZ
June 16, 200916 yr Author Omelette's babies began leaving the nestbox today.......first was NASTY so I put a tub in there for her. Then the greywing joined her  and tonight when I checked at "bedtime " there was the grey green spangle as well  so they have seed as the nesting materials and a lid went on for a cosy night time.  the cinnamon grey is still in the nest with Mum who is about to lay a second egg. Edited June 16, 200916 yr by KAZ
June 16, 200916 yr Wow, she's laying already unfortunately 3 days ago, i found the eldest cinnamon sky blue baby on the aviary floor huddled in the quail house with the quail's! so he left the nest earlier then i thought...but their all inside now, all the baby's.
