Yes......if you read back through you will find Omelette plucks the down feathers off her chicks. She always stops when their pin feathers come in.

Ah, old habits eh

One thing about Omelette......she is PREDICTABLE :D

so a hen that plucks may not pluck passed the down

when feathers come in she may stop ???

okay as i didnt give my hen a chance then as she made the fluffyest chicks bald i just removed them to another nest

mabe i should have waited ????

They are all different mate..........you just have to know your birds inside out and do what works for you. Omelette spends less time in the nest once their feathers show up so she is less inclined to tamper with her babies. She steps back and lets the dads do most of the feeding from around 2 weeks of age and when they are feathering up. BUT she has never touched them once they started getting pin feathers....just nibbles off their down.

Omelette's eldest chick an opaline grey female died today. Apparently a blood vessel in the nasal passage burst and profuse bleeding was coming from the right nostril, .............death came quickly as blood was filling its lungs :D It was a very large chick too. I also moved the two grey spangles into a foster nest, leaving the four youngest with Omelette.

o no sorry

why did you move the babys kaz hope thay are okay

I moved the babies to even up some nestboxes so there werent too many in one nest and not too many in another.

Once chicks have their legrings on its easier to shift them around :D

:) and a good idea to... that should prevent plucking... but the hen will tear it off the chick's and wil be very suspicious of it...
