Posted April 9, 200520 yr I removed an egg from Blondies nest box and I have notice she has two more, and still has one chick that wont leave the nest box for more than 10 minute intervals although she is 4 weeks and 4 days old. Do I remove all her eggs, or let her hatch again. Seem to me its too close, and dad Jack has been fathering for 12 months soldid. Take him away from one hen, he'll get another up the duff, with or without a breeding box. I normally remove every 2nd clutch of eggs, but I will wait and see what other suggest Cindy
April 9, 200520 yr ive just removed a chick thaat was 5 weeks old when i did the hen was already sitting on 4 eggs the first two fertile 4 to 5 weeks is the norm as for dad 12 months solid is a very long time are you breeding in an aviary if so i would remove all nest boxs if you cant do that put him in a cage on his own for a couple of months
April 9, 200520 yr Depends on the bird if she looks fine then you can go a second time around If she only reared 3 or less chicks it should be okay I ususaly clean out the breeding box and disinfect it and the cage replace the eggs and let them do there thing. But if she has had four or more I would give them a rest for about six months Its best to separate the male and female as the male will continue to feed the female even thou she is not breeding And what happens is the male does not get a rest and can become stressed by continually feeding the female Another good thing is you can change the male and female around as with budgies they don?t mate for life like cockatoos Well I hope this helps and have a good day
