well, i have 10 pair's of budgie's in the large aviary i have, and i also have 4 grassparrot's who are very quiet, and i was wondering if it's okay for grassparrot's to be in the same aviary as budgie's??

i havent seen budgie's fight yet so i was hoping it would be the same result with the grassparrot's to

I would not mix any big parrot with budgies. Ive never seen a grass parrot before do you have a picture?

Cockatiels quails and doves are the only birds I would house with budgies.

I agree with the statements above it is not recommended to mix.

indeed i do, heres the picture, they are very quiet and friendly....i just dont know how the budgie's will react, cause i cant keep them in this cage much longer, no one wants them, they arent much bigger then a budgie, except their tail is a tad bit longer

You can but it depends on individual circumstances such as how many budgies vs how many parrakeets. Breeding or not. Size of avairy. Perch quanity and spacing

I have kept the following with budgies (400). Bourke's, Red Capped Parrot, Cockatiels, Cut-throat Finches, Zebra Finches, Barbary Doves and Quail. But having said all that they were in a big flight 20 ft x 10 ft heaps of perch space. The Red Capped lived in there with them for around 7 years and the cockatiels for about 5 years. All the others came and went as needed in various numbers.

It helps to know the species your dealing with and you really need to be on the ball as far as picking up early signs of distress.

It will be 100% fine to mix grassparrots with budgies...

I also had them mixed in a large aviary for years with no issue at all, they will be okay.

Grassparrots and the budgies just do their own thing together...

LEAVE THEM TOGETHER>>>

What size is the aviary Matt? It's really irresponsible to advice someone to keep a mixed species avairy when we have NO idea how big his aviary is.

What size is the aviary Matt?

10ft long, 6 ft wide, plenty of perch space in the breeding/shelter room and 6ft perches going from the front of the aviary to the back wall, one higher and about 10 cm behind the other one....plenty of perch space....

and their's 1 pair of button quail down the bottom

Is their nest boxes in their?

Personally I still would not do it. I have no knowledge in grass parrots and I would not risk it. You have not mixed the species before so they could be friendly now, but what happens when they are mixed together? They could fight for dominance or anything. You could come home one day with all the birds dead.

It may not happen, Im just saying what I would do.

Then NO it is :)

ill have to find a way to sell them somehow...

I never had an issue at all......if anything it was war between the budgies only at times.

The grassparrots never interfered with anything at all to do with the budgies

(living,eating, breeding etc).

Grassparrots are very placid natured birds...I had them for many years together!!!

Hope this will help...

Just monitor them regulary

cause i cant keep them in this cage much longer, no one wants them

No one wants them? Why not? That's a shame. If you were closer, I'd take them. The colours are really pretty :).

With that info I say no... it's not big enough to house both. The issues is not with the grass parrots either... if they are the docile ones, your budgies could hurt them... That's purely my opinion, I'd just hate for you to have losses based on what you hear from us. Losses are bad enough without being the fault of your own.

ive decided to leave them out of the aviary, my hen has a nest of fertile egg's....(the other 4 hen's nests were infertile and 2 of the hen's were first timer's so they cracked the egg's being nervous)

so anyways ill keep them out and find a way to get rid of them, silly me payed $180 for the 4 of them thinking they would breed, and only 1 is female(dark colored) and the other colored ones are males....so yer

keep 2 and sell the other 2. keep 1 male 1 female.

i would, but like i said, i got no where to put them, my aviary's are full at the moment, they were originally with 3 pairs of tiel's, but they've all got nests (1 nest is inside now being handreared)

so i had to take the grassy's out of their and put them in my quarantine cage for the time being, so i have no spare aviary, or nothing....its getting hard lol

oh okay.

You can pick up cheap second hand aviaries from pet link or craigslist, or even ebay. Ill take a look.

i blame the petshop in newcastle, pissed me off how he said they were 2 breeding pair's when theirs 3 males and 1 female...and he said they were semi tame, when their as wild as anything....thats when i learnt never buy from pet shops :)

thank you. much appreciated...anywhere in the hunter/newcastle region is fine, no further then gosford and no further then newcastle

Yep. I do not trust pet shops at all. I have lost all faith in pet shops.
