Posted May 6, 200916 yr Well I'm not a handy man by any stretch of the imagination, but I want to build my own cabinets and stuff so bringing X home was the perfect opportunity. I had some spare cage fronts that I got a while ago so I popped down to bunnings and went shopping... its not a DAZ masterpeice but it is something... Dimensions are 1200 X 600 X 450 I tried making a little perch thing-a-me-jig too...
May 7, 200916 yr Author Excellent job! Do you plan to breed them in it? I won't be breeding in that one. It will probably end up being a juvi cell, or quarantine cage in the long run... At this stage I'm not sure what dimensions my breeding cabinets will be as I haven't been able to source a local cage fronts supplier/manufacturer that have any that I like... Thanks everyone it is a modest begining but now that my wife has seen it she's desided that she wants me to build some chests for the kids toys and stuff lol... Edited May 7, 200916 yr by JimmyBanks
May 7, 200916 yr Excellent job Jimmy! :hooray: I can see why your wife wants to capitalise on you new-found carpentry skills :hooray:
May 7, 200916 yr Author thanks everyone. :offtopic: What cage fronts does everyone use for breeding cabinets (I would prefer to attach the box to the outside of cage front)?? And where do you get them from? Edited May 7, 200916 yr by JimmyBanks
May 7, 200916 yr thanks everyone. What cage fronts does everyone use for breeding cabinets (I would prefer to attach the box to the outside of cage front)?? And where do you get them from? Some are available with a hinged door, or you just cut some bars to allow access and use hooks to hang the box
May 7, 200916 yr Author I'd prefer a hinged door if I could find one... I don't really want to cut the fronts if I don't have too. that was if I decide at a later date to use it as a holding cage I can...

May 7, 200916 yr Author thought the same thing after I'd put it together That would just top it off. I knew I'd have that problem because my cage fronts are 600 wide and the back was 1200 so that didn't leave a split to do it unfortunately... I've already started thinking of different ways to improve them for next time... can anyone tell me what is the most resistant wood type to mites and the like?

The split is arrived at by cutting one vertical bar off the side of each cage......womens logic....besides I have done them this way too :hap: PS NO wood is resistant to mites...they also enjoy plastic and glass.
