Posted May 5, 200916 yr I saw this in a post they[/color] sing with the birds getting up outside too. Sunset is around 6:30 PM. I turn off their lamp right as the sun goes down and then about 10 minutes later I cover their cage for the night. It works really well with my schedule and my little guys seem to agree with it too. ] http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index.php?showtopic=8482&hl=when+they+sleep Budgie Sleep, What is the recommended amount? Well, my question is do you do this (w the lamp) forever or just during a certain time frame? Also, do you all cover your cages before you go to bed? Is that a must?
May 5, 200916 yr The lamp isnt necessary for normal healthy and older budgies. Your baby may benefit from a warm lamp for awhile though. Covering the cage is just for nighttime and fits in with your schedule. It helps the budgie get good sleep without interuption and creates a routine.
May 5, 200916 yr Probibly the best thing is when the sun goes down, cover them. Mine are up till 7:30pm Uncover at Dawn. I feed mine about 5:30am as I leave for work just after 6:00am But the main lights come on at 7:00am.
May 5, 200916 yr Author Up to what age do I keep a lamp on him? Do you use a light cloth like a old Tshirt or do you use a heavier towel type cloth? Wow, I have tons of questions. Reading other post and trying to find all the answers is a job in itself. I’m suppose to be working right now but… hihihihi
May 5, 200916 yr If he is over the age of 8 wks which I assume he is since he was sold then you don't need a lamp at all, I use a heater in my room that Merlin stays in to keep the room a constant 70 F degrees.
May 6, 200916 yr Author okay, great... Thanks. My Apt is always around 71 to 78 depending on the month. Unless i kick in the AC but I guess this year i wont be.

This is the baby budgie that was sold at around 2 weeks of age...he is around 4 weeks now. this topic http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....c=25551&hl= Edited May 6, 200916 yr by KAZ
May 6, 200916 yr Author Yes, KAZ is correct, he is 4 weeks old. My place is always 76-78F degrees now. That should be good right? He is in his new cage since last night. I covered it with a black cotton cloth. I think he loves his new place. He didn't do much at first but then he started to go test things out. I think he likes the swing the best. When I put the cover on last night he was on it. This morning he was still there. We'll see when we get home today. KAZ - So you think 3 months with the light on should be okay. "On" during the day, "Off" during the night or the other way around? If my Apt is at 76-78F degrees do you think the light is needed? Just wondering.... Thanks
