Posted May 3, 200916 yr Shelfie does this to the others sometimes. She even does it to me sometimes. Is she playing or fighting? Play fighting. She'll decide she wants to bob heads with someone and they'll chase her away and she'll just fly back and kinda land on them or swoop repeatedly. I swear she has no social skills. She just doesn't seem to be able to read their behavior. She's such a strange bird. Here she is in action. Summer

May 6, 200916 yr I see birds who chase each other and fight etc. it can be a dominance thing over a mate or a perch. Perhaps she thinks she is top bird and is trying to keep the others off "her spots"
May 6, 200916 yr haven't seen it before but it sounds like a dominance thing... wants to be top budgie...
May 6, 200916 yr hahaha mine did this.. and the more someone hated or didnt like birds the more the bird will try to land on them, mates girlfriends would come over with them and spend the whole time trying to get the bird to land or sit on their shoulder, someone else come in that didnt like birds and the bird would head straight over. I found they do it more when they're young like puppies annoy us and older dogs until they are still learning what is right and accepted. She's a pretty bird.
May 6, 200916 yr Merlin doesn't do it to me but Pretty used to do it to me all the time, I believe they are communicating something like here I am or if it is something they don't like they swoop at them (such as a stranger).
May 7, 200916 yr No social skills? Sounds like my son who has mild autism. Can budgies get autism?? (just kidding... :offtopic: )
May 14, 200916 yr Author No social skills? Sounds like my son who has mild autism. Can budgies get autism?? (just kidding... ) LOL. I wonder that too! My daughter is a bit challenged that way too. The funny thing about Shelfie...although she's in everyone's face. If anyone is stuck on the floor (due to a wing clipping) she is there with them until I get them off the floor.
