Well the day finally came and I have brought home Lip's baby from MB's house. Thanks so much to her for helping me out! She was very friendly and helpful. We struck some problems with both the parents passing away and so she was left to hand raise the chicks. So with out further ado... Ladies and Gentlemen, Girls and boys may I introduce to you....

And if you are wondering where I got the name from?

Considering the health issues at MBs and the fact birds can be carrying hidden disease, would it not be best to have him tested at a good avian vet for anything he may be carrying ? Bloodworks and droppings tests etc ?

How is his brother ?

my budgie oceana is quite the same as that!

with the tail.....you kniow.

gorgeous anyways!

yes he will be going for a check up at the avian vet. I may even do an extended quarantine with him... (len is still in a hospital cage anyway's until he boosts his body weight but you can't be too careful)

I really think in this case you cannot be too careful and its going to have to be worthwhile being SURE

PS you will need full detials of the illnesses at MB's to take with you so the vet can act based on full information.

The brother was at the vets today getting checked out. MB thinks that there may be something wrong with him but we arnt sure if that is illness or due to being hand reared... I'll ask MB to let me know if they find anything out.

Very nice budgie Jimmy I love the markings.

Spangles dont exactly have proper throat spots JB

haha thats funny I never noticed that before... have to go check out the Members Spangles thread... :D

They get bullseye spots Im pretty sure. The spots are rarley circle shaped like a normal. they are like half moons and bullseyes etc.

When he moults he should get some sort of spots.

Yep, it's the bulls eye spots that are the go with spangles. This is one of Daniel Lutolf's winners for 2008. Note the bulls eye spots

X is mine. MB is keeping the grey one. I'm not sure about the health of the other baby, MB said she was taking him to the vet to get him assessed as he seems to have some problems, not sure if they are related to being hand reared or if they are a result of catching a disease...

Jimmy, here is another of Daniel's winners from last year. See the difference again in the spots.

I like the bullseye spots to be honest. They look quite good on spangles.

Thought I'd clear up the health concerns for everyone. The babies have NEVER had any contact with any of the ill birds, they are kept inside the house on their own with my tame hen and the sick birds were only ever in the garage. I of course have practiced safe handling so that nothing is passed on by my handling of ill birds, etc :D None of the other budgies in the breeding area or any of my other larger birds became ill either, only the ones in my large aviary where the birds from the dodgy breeder ended up.

The little grey guy's issues are under checking by the vet at the moment but he believes it is a kidney problem, possibly related to being underfed for a few days before he was brought in for handrearing. He has always had a weak left leg and dropped wing on that side, has been checked for contractable illnesses and cleared. Hope that helps ;)
