Posted May 1, 200916 yr Hi I have a pair of birds. They had one clutch, raised the chicks well. Now I was hoping they would lay another clutch. The hen lays every one of her eggs off the perch. I mean every one. She used the nest box for the first clutch why not for the second? Their are no babies in with her at the moment just her and her partner. She sits in the nest box all day but when she comes out she lays the egg, what is with that? Im thinking of releasing them, maybe they are too stressed. What do you think?
May 1, 200916 yr Weird hen...I remember you talking about this hen before. I would give her a real long holiday and try her again once the weather warms up later in the year....see if it makes a difference.....maybe another kind of breeding cage set up too...later on. IF its any consolation Cec Gearing also had a hen that did exactly the same thing. She was an outstanding hen in looks but wouldnt lay in the box. She was rested and will be tried again later. May 1, 200916 yr Pearce I have a hen doing that at the moment - i am putting the eggs into the nestbox, she is sitting as normal.

What do you think? maybe you have some sudden change in nesting style? eg.nesting material,style of nest box etc. or the nestbox dos not privide comfort for the hen
