Check to see if it gets damp in there and also check for poopy bottoms and birds getting thin. State of health will affect them on a cold night. And ages. Need more information. Hey Kaz, All my birds seem healthy , good weight (except my bent beak and no top beak duo) but they are healthy considering there short comings. No dampness on the floor, even when it rains it doesn't wash under the aviary. Yes all my birds are together and get on well. 1 budgie boy was 18mths old and other boy was 2yrs old. They are for my pleasure only and aren't show budgies. Even the 2 that pasted away this morning , there feathers looked good, good color, beaks okay , no sign of any problems. So this is why i think its the cold weather 0 degrees is bloody cold , so just looking for some ideas to cover the front and side of my aviary . Thanks NIk Edited April 30, 200916 yr by KAZ
April 30, 200916 yr See if you can find some old blinds....bamboo type or anything that would insulate from the cold and stop any draughts or winds. Hang them over the mesh.
April 30, 200916 yr Cold can knock out the sick or weak... keep a close eye on your flock as you may have a disease hiding, Or the two deaths could have been a coincidence and both died from weaknesses caused by individual conditions. Budgies, provided they are acclimatised to being outside, should seldom be affected by the weather. As Kaz says its dampness that is the danger. It doesn't have to be wet, just damp. Any kind of moisture getting to the floor of your aviary will cause bacteria, mould and parasites to thrive and potentially knock out your flock.

Hi , Ill clean out my aviary on the weekend just in case there is something on the floor material , whats the best insulation material for the floor ( natural) .?
April 30, 200916 yr Concrete with about an inch of lime, then covered with another inch (or more) of clean sand is ideal. Some place wire racks under the perches so the birds dont have access to the bulk of the droppings too.
