Posted April 28, 200916 yr Effie, my stubborn baby budgie has not paid any particular interest in her vegetables. I started introducing vegetables and fruit into her and Chicken's diet as soon as I got them home. They are both pet shop birds so I thought that they had probably only been feed seed so I wanted to start them on fresh food while they were still babies and learn faster! Chicken is great and willing to try pretty much anything, but Effie won't touch anything aside from broccoli (and only when she feels like it!) I am lucky that Effie usually does whatever she sees Chicken doing, I am hoping this will trick her into eating something good for her for a change!! I am thinking I might add another feed dish to their cage to hold a fresh veggie mix in it and then start lowering the amount of seed I have in the other holder. My aim is to change to ratio to mostly fresh, less seed. I won't take away the seed completely though. I assume someone has tried something similar, how did it work out?
April 28, 200916 yr My budgies will try anything the see the other parrots eating - whether they like it or not is another matter but at least they try it. Just wish they wouldn't try and push the rosella's off as one day the rosella's are going to mature and stand up for themselves . . .
April 29, 200916 yr Keep at it and try different things, if she likes brocolli then try different things like kale or small amounts of spinach too, I find that budgies have adversions to different colored food, with your other one being willing to try different foods the one that won't will at one point try it too.
