Posted April 27, 200916 yr Hi, I've just joined the forum although I have been reading your posts for weeks now- your advice has really helped me! My housemate and I are new to bird owning and after a great amount of research decided on Budgies. So now we have two lovely birds that keep us busy and entertained! Although we are at home quite a lot, we also have work and uni to factor in and so we wanted two birds that could keep each other company when we weren't at home. Chicken (male) is the yellow and Effie (female) is the blue. Chicken after a bath with his spiky hairdo! As you can tell, I have NO idea about variation names- could someone help me out please? They are besotted with each other now and follow each other all over the house. They much prefer to go and sit on another couch than sit with us! We actually wish that they would bond closer to us as well as each other but we don't want to push it- we are happy if they are! They are both fairly tame (Chicken much more so than Effie!), after only a couple of days they were very happy to hop up onto our fingers and sit on our shoulders for a walk around the house. They are both very happy and active birds! I am about to start clicker training with Chicken as he is technically my bird and also the more tame of the two. If it works out well, I will attempt to try with Effie. I imagine she will want to do whatever it is she sees Chicken do anyway! I'll keep you posted on how I go! April 27, 200916 yr Hi, featherybird. Welcome. I'm glad you decided to come in out of the cold. Yes, this is a good forum. I've had fun and learnt some stuff since I joined recently. Your birds are absolutely gorgeous.
April 27, 200916 yr Hi and welcome... Your birds are sweet. I'm not good with mutations etc... so I'll leave it to the experts. I'm glad you have found this site to be helpful, and remember we were all new once... so ask anything!!! Welcome again, enjoy and I look forward to getting to know you and your 'flock'
April 27, 200916 yr Welcome to the forum...your budgies are very cute. I'll leave it up to the experts to inform you of mutations. ENJOY :glare:
April 27, 200916 yr Lol apparently there are no experts online at this time of night.. :glare: Welcome to BBC The people here are awesome and I'm sure you will learn everything you need to know in no time!
April 28, 200916 yr Welcome to the forum! I'm not expert but here are my guesses: Effie looks like a Mauve Normal and Chicken could be either a dark eye clear or a double factor spangle since his eyes look black in the pictures.. if his eyes are actually red then he would be a lutino.
April 28, 200916 yr Author Thanks Cory. I did wonder if Chicken was a Lutino but his eyes are solid black. I also wondered if it was just because they are young- I read that their eye colour develops as they get older- but I think they would have changed by now. Hmm... I'll wait to see what others say as well!
April 28, 200916 yr Hi, welcome! Your budgies are so cute! I only joined recently too,& even tho I've had budgies before i've already learned heaps here!
April 28, 200916 yr Thanks Cory. I did wonder if Chicken was a Lutino but his eyes are solid black. I'll wait to see what others say as well! Your are welcome okay.. If chicken was a lutino then his eyes would've been red since he was born but if they are solid black then chances are that he is a dark eyed clear. But if his irises get lighter as he gets older then he is a double factor spangle.
