Posted April 6, 200520 yr Alright, I've been roaming the petshop in search for my perfect budgie cage, and I think I've found one. It's probably about a foot and a half wide in the front and the back. Is this too small? People tell me not to get a cage that's too small, but WHAT IS TOO SMALL? I personally think it's okay, but I'm not a parakeet expert, so I'm asking, just in case. Thank you, :parrot: Kiya
April 6, 200520 yr For one budgie I think 18 inches all around would be good. Piper's cage is 18"x18"x18" and she seems very comfortable. It also gives plenty of room for lots of different perches, toys, etc. The one you mentioned sounds like it's about that size? That would be good. Of course, they always say the bigger the better. And wider than taller is best.
April 6, 200520 yr Yes I have to echo what devvle says-I think we would all say the bigger the better but yours sounds fine, especially if your bird will have lots of opportunities to free fly as well. Julie
April 6, 200520 yr i just went into my petshop and simply bought the largest BUDGIE cage in the whole shop! your cage sounds lovely. is it rectangular? rectangular is best - lets you use the space inside the cage more effectively
April 6, 200520 yr Oh! I almost forgot to mention that you should make sure the bar spacing is no larger than 1/2 inch.
April 6, 200520 yr Also make sure the cage doors are big enough so you can get your hand into every coorner of the cage with ease.
April 17, 200520 yr Most probably the cage, since the discussion is about cages. Anyway, aren't purple budgies usually referred to as violet, or something like it?
April 17, 200520 yr If it's a purple cage I would like to see a picture of it and if it's a purple budgie well... I would love to see a picture a picture of that to.
