experienced breeders do inbreed for better birds. Father to daughter and mother to father I think. I dont know anyone who would do brother to sister. I would not suggest doing it unless you are really experienced and know your birds. Problems can occur, budgies born with deformities.

Most show breeders do not breed that close Pearce................cousins yes brother and sister...most do NOT

I know show breeders who breed father to daughter and mother to son Kaz. and as I said in previous post I do not know anyone who breeds brother to sister, does not mean it has not been done.

Like I said Pearce MOST do not.

Alot of the uk breeders do it to increase size in their flock. I will find you some good websites on it. I suggest you do not inbreed unless you are more experienced

Our club it is common practise to breed father to daughter mother to son. I do not do it but the amoun of breeders at our club that tl us about how they do it is high.

You can breed any bird together. The risk of breeding very close is that you double up on features, Even recessive ones. If the features are a fault, then you double up on it.

 

I know breeders that have tried brother and sister. I have done it. But it didn't work for them and it didn't work for me. I pair as close as Half Brother to Half sister, cousins, Grand father to Grand daughter. But you have to know your birds and what faults they have.

I have and will breed cousin to cousin, half brother half sister, grand daughter to grand father and this year I am putting daughter to father only because the father is getting on and will mostly likely be the last year I get anything out of him. I am breeding this way because I am establishing my own stud. The old cock bird is my foundation cock.

But each time I go close to him, with the next generation I out cross then I go back to his blood again.

It's like a xmas tree branches, out back, out back. In a few years all my birds should look the same.

With breeding so close yes you do run the risk of bad traits coming out but also you can get some ripper things too.

I would never do full brother to full sister.

Kaz - A lot of breeders including myself bred father to daughter and mother to son. I would say the most DO breed that close.

 

I know a breeder that paired Brother to Sister by mistake, and the chicks turned out really good. In saying that most of the times that i have heard brother to sister pairing they have ended up being culled out. I regularly pair half brother to half sister, which is good pairing if the common parent is excellent.

I am sure a lot do. I am just speaking from my expereince and what I hear of breeders I associate with.

I like these,seasoned breeders,we breed, brother to sister,how many make it to the show cage,its alright

to say,you do it,but if they,dont make it to the bench,its pointless.

Henry George tried it but it didn't work.

Not say don't only saying it didn't work for him. I tried it but lost the family through illness so it didn't work for me.
