Mirrors aren't good. As Dean said, he'll become attached to it and not you. I'd avoid them. As to a proper cage, I'm not the best one to ask about this... but click on this link for good and bad cages for when he is ready: Good and bad cages You mentioned he was eating his own poo. That tells me his is pecking at this on the ground. I'd suggest sprinkling some proper bird seed to encourage him to eat on his own. You could also introduce some veggies to. Corn, peas, greens. Avoid those high in water content such as lettuce and celery. Is he perching on the bars in his cage? Perhaps encourage him to do so. I'm sure someone else will be able to give you better advice re the cage.

He is not in a cage now. He is in a clear plastic case and thats why I was wondering about when was the good time to put him in a regular cage. I'll take a look at the post on cages too. Thanks

He seems fully feathered. The cage about now would be a good thing. A few lower perches and a wooden ladder. No mirror....they frustrate budgies more than help them
