Zeke Went To The Vet

Hi all still here lurking and reading heaps of good advice. Zeke went to the vet today, after much thought I decided to get his wings clipped as we are from Tassie and now living in Queensland and getting used to the heat is hard so we have alot of fans going all the time and thought it would therefore be safer for Zeke. All went well but now my little darling wont speak to me lol. Every time I approach the cage he sticks his head in the air and shuts his eyes as if he is saying bugger you after what I went through today I am not speaking  . Even millet wont do the trick. I am off to work now for a few hours so hope he will be talking to me by the time I get back lol. Still trying to get a good picture of him to post. Hopefully soon :P

Birds do have emotions but not like the ones that we think. Going to the vet, being handled and having your wings clipped is stressful. Right now your bird is under stress and he just needs to readjust to his enviroment, and the feeling of his wings.

If you get your hair cut you feel different right well a bird does too but he can't understand why so he just get quiet and stressed.

Unlike humans birds do not have the understanding of hating or getting mad as we do. They live in the now and right now he feels different.

He will come around, leave him be and chill and within a couple days Zeke will be back to his normal self. As long as you start to see him eat and drink that is good. The first time he tries his new wings he may stress out too especially if he is used to flying so make sure you have him in a small area that is carpeted so he doesn't get hurt.

I understand how you feel. Got lots of those emotions going with my birdie every time we had to cut. Hope he gets back to his own self again soon.

the main issue with seeing the vet is being grabbed - budgies hate it.

When i tame birds i always include being grabbed as part of the taming process. It's a good idea to get them to unconditionally trust your hand so if you ever have to remove a blood feather, clip a toe nail or check them over etc, they wont freak out. My tame budgie gets grabbed every day. He has gotten so used to it i can grab him from the perch in his cage with ease. It doesn't hurt them and it gets them to trust you at a far deeper level as they overcome that fear of being prey.
