Posted April 18, 200916 yr Our new house is only half an hour or so away from our old house (and only 15-20 mins away from the other places I've lived) but it is still interesting to see the difference between the birds here. I have seen a lot of spotted/peaceful doves, peewees, and plovers here. Our old place had the doves too but the only other birds it had were scrub turkeys, which we haven't seen here yet. I was just going outside to hang up my washing, and as I walked near to our outdoor setting, a small bird took off at a frantic speed. It must have been sleeping on our chair! It took me by surprise as I couldn't identify it. It looked like.... a really tiny pheasant? Or... is it a tawny frogmouth? But it's so small and not tawny. My current guess is either a baby pheasant, or a different bird I have never heard of before. Hard to tell, it is just smaller than the types I would guess it to be. Anyone know?
April 18, 200916 yr yeah honeyeater was my guess too. they are common around here, my front yard gets lots of them visisting.
April 18, 200916 yr Author It has a stripy tail which is what seemed strange to me. It does have the shape of a honeyeater, I will keep an eye out for more of them
