April 21, 200916 yr great job Pearce... just a question any idea what causes the birds to all hatch a day after each other, I thought usually they have a day in between, right?
April 21, 200916 yr Author yes jimmy I thought it was every 2 days hatching and laying. I beleive the first 2 eggs were laid on the same day. Then the third and fourth eggs 2 days later on the same day. Then the rest were every 2nd day. I think incubation and that all plays a part in the hatch rate. It doesnt really bother me when they hatch, aslong as they hatch. Does anyone know why most eggs were laid on same day? thanks all.
April 21, 200916 yr usually the hen doesn't sit and brood correctly until around the 3rd egg, this cuases the first few to hatch either the same day or a day after, then it even back out the the 2 days hatching for the later eggs.
April 22, 200916 yr Author Tiny's youngest sibling died today. He hatched one day early so that may have caused it. He could also have been suffocated or squashed by the other babies in the nest.
April 22, 200916 yr Tiny's youngest sibling died today. He hatched one day early so that may have caused it. He could also have been suffocated or squashed by the other babies in the nest. Sorry to hear that Pearce...it would have been due to the early hatching.

April 22, 200916 yr Author I check if the ring comes off as soon as I put it on the chicks. If I cannot slide it off Il eave it on.
